Nice Product, but Newer Version Doesn't MatchKathleenI own 10 Malm dressers and have added glass tops to all of them to protect and preserve the dressers. The reason for a rank of 4 is that the current glass tops do not match earlier ones. The new glass tops are thinner and not white. The glass has a green-blue cast making it unacceptable when trying to match prior purchases. Otherwise, it is a great product.
Effective Glass Top for DresserKathleenBought the longer glass top to replace shorter glass top on existing and new dresser. Like the longer length--less seams. Would definitely recommend.
Not the originalMatthewI have another malm nighstand I purchased a few years ago. I just picked up another to match the other side of my bed and when I opened the glass top it is now frosted in WHITE, not clear as the other glass used to be. They no longer sell the original clear glass
Had to return itSonjaI bought it took it out the box. Was surprised to see it was frosted. Clear glass and frosted. I have the black/brown malm dressers. This only works with the white. Disappointed they don't have a clear one that would go with the other colors. So I had to return it. I just hope they will have a clear one. Because I still want it even though its a little pricey for a piece of glass.
UsefulIwonaI ordered the Malm glass top because it is very useful in keeping the chest clean and scratch-free. Too bad they don't have as many colors as before and the smaller sizes are always out.
Why is this glass top WHITE?!KarenI wanted a clear glass top for my dresser and figured glass would be..clear. Nope. It’s inexplicably white. Why on God’s green earth would your ONE glass top option ONLY match one of FOUR dresser colors?! Makes ZERO sense. If it were just plain clear glass it would work for everyone. What gives, IKEA??
Beware: Glass has a white coating on the underside.NicholePreviously these glass tops were clear. Now there is white paint or something on the underside of the glass. Probably looks nice with the white furniture. I, however, have an oak colored dresser and I don't like that the natural color doesn't show through. I really don't understand why they would change it. The glass is supposed to be protective of the piece, not change its natural appearance. It functions fine and I do appreciate the newly added hardware to affix the glass so that it doesn't slide.
Does not match previous glass tops at allMattThanks IKEA, we drove 2.5 hours to get this thing and brought it home only to discover it does not match the other three glass tops we bought previously. A complete waste of time and it looks terrible.

Must haveChina G.If you’re purchasing the Malm chest plz do your self a favor and get the frosted glass for the top of the dresser. It gives it a sleek/clean look and will also protect the wood from spills, scrapes etc.

Taking it back. Not clear glass and it has holes.CindyI am taking this glass top back. I wanted clear glass and this one has white paint on one side and three holes drilled in on the top so you can secure it but it doesn't come with hardware to secure it nor do I want to secure it to anything. It is a heavy sturdy piece of glass and I would love it if it was clear with no holes.

UGH- it’s green now with holes? Where’s the old white oneANTONELLAUGHHHH the new doesn’t hatch the previous white glass like others stated!! It’s green with 3 holes for the pieces that hold it together. Does NOT match the previous white glass. Wish I would’ve read the reviews before purchasing since ikea return lines are like being at Disney .

Change in glass to low iron glass - don't buy!JaneSo, Ikea has changed the glass top to a low iron, cheaper glass than the clear (or white) glass sold for years. Instead of thinking about their customers, Ikea decided to use cheaper (green tint) glass knowing that numerous customers already have the clear and/or white tops. Whoever decided on this cheaper glass should be fired. This new "white" glass doesn't even look good on the furniture due to the change in color. Maybe, if their sales drop on the furniture using these tops, they will reconsider and do right by their customers.

Beware, Glass top is Blue!CharityI love the malm collection and like many others - I have several pieces from the collection. I'm disappointed that I now have one glass top that is blue while all my others are white. I'm quite shocked that Ikea would allow such an oversight on such a beloved piece of furniture.

What is glass?
Glass is mainly made of sand, soda, and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
