Very disappointed, poor designAnnmarie G.Despite proper assembly, the slats never stay in place. The slates are only half the width of the bed and fall off the frame unless I sit down very carefully (I am only 145 lbs). The frame seems solid and the directions for assembly were clear. I finally have resorted to duct taping each end of the individual slats to keep them in place.1
Looks great in roomErinFinished product looks great. Took a little longer to assemble due to different type of hardware that came with.5
Good qualityMONICAGood value for money. Worked perfect for my 15 yo son5
Good bedyingGood bed5
Waste of time!Hannah N.Wow! So much work for such a disappointment. The bed slats never stay in place even when correctly assembled- The metal the goes underneath is very weak as well. It broke immediately upon me sitting on it, and I am 130 pounds. Would NOT recommend this unless you want a headache..1

Loved this bed so much I bought a second one!MELISA R.I love the clean, modern look of this bed. I bought a king size Malm several years ago and have been very happy with it. I just purchased a second Malm bed, this time I also bought the storage drawers. It is an excellent bed and at a very affordable price. I also have two matching dressers and two nightstands. Love them all.5
Have to tighten screws backjazminHave to tighten screws back after a while the loosen bed squeaks.5
Assembly difficultyBrian A.This bed looks really nice but the assembly was a killer. There are dozens and dozens of parts and seems really over-engineered. But, the instructions seemed to be straight forward and doable. The 'Spiral CAM wheel locks' that hold the corners together are not explained because nothing is explained; the instructions are all pictures. It took lots of trial and error to finally make the spiral cam wheel locks to work. I am really good at doing such work but this bed took me hours to assemble and I was completely exhausted by the time I was done. I would recommend paying the assembly fee or buy a traditional mattress and box spring with the bed frame than can be installed in 2 minutes. I fear the day when we have to move this bed to a new home; hopefully it can be moved in one piece.3
It was everything I wanted.TreeceIt was everything I wanted.5
Missing?Jon P.Just bought this for our daughter for Christmas. We cannot find the steel middle beam or the wood slats. Are these supposed to be an extra purchase?2
The second MalmSharonThis is the second Malm bed I've bought. I have the first one, had it for over four years now. In the black/brown color wood. My son has bought the second one in the light wood color. That said and sorry for what seems to be this bed being discontinued. There are not many extra products that match this bed now. I have a dresser/nightstand and wanted the glass tops etc for the Malm line, but sadly they don't seem to be in stock or sold anymore.4
Lesson learnedBrendan M.****Pro Tip*** you must use the lower rail mount with the Lonset support (which adds several inches) or your bed will be sitting above bed frame. I learned the hard way. Ikea directions and customer support are both a joke.2
BROKE WHILE I WAS SLEEPINGKari B.i’ve had this bed for about 2 years now. it creeked and squeaked since the first month i had it, i could suck it up on the squeaking but the other night the center metal beam just completely broke causing my mattress to sink to the floor. :/ will be having to get a new bed and ive learned my lesson from buying from ikea1
Excellent bed!...NoelExcellent bed!...5
Malm full size bedRosivetteThe bed frame and side bars are easy to assemble, but the cross metal bars are very challenging to adjust. The material is what you pay for, we have other two of this beds in the house that are three years old and still good as new.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

What is veneer?

A veneer is a thin wooden sheet attached to things like particleboard to add a durable surface and a natural wood look – so we enjoy the many benefits of wood without using solid wood. The most common veneer types are birch, ash, oak, and beech, and we’ve made a special UV lacquer that helps preserve the wood's natural structure. A benefit with a slightly thicker veneer is how you can repair and sand the surface if it’s damaged to give furniture a longer and more beautiful life.
