Bring back the old design please!!! This tiny screw design is a flaming bag of poo!!!RyanThe new design with the tiny screws on the outside is terrible! They strip easy, are unsightly and the holes don't always line up. My family has purchased over 20 of these through the years and loved the ease of the old ones with the long screws that held everything together from the underside/inside. The old design was simple and clean. The new design has the tiniest of screws attaching from the outside making it look cheap and the quality isn't there anymore.
I would gladly pay a few more dollars to bring back the old trusty design [and no...I don't want to return it ikea] but I won't be buying anymore with this current tiny screw crap. Looks like I might have to look into making my own :/

Screws too smallAdrianExperiencing the same issue raised by all other reviewers - screws for the side panels are too small and strips easily. The "holes" don't match up either (there are no holes, only indents). I could not get even one side panel in, and I ordered 6 boxes... Now I have to spend more money to get screws that will work for these boxes.
Since this is an issue raised many times for the past many months, what is IKEA doing about this? I see their responses here but they have not signaled any actionable step to correct the situation for customers, nor any steps to prevent the same issue for future customers. Offering people to return the item does not address the core issue either...1
Crappola MikeWhile the 4 larger screws are fine. It's the small screws, that are hard to screw into hold the small boards on the ends in place and the holes don't match up. Just seems be smarter to use a larger screw, make the holes a little larger your screw into and just seems it would be easy due to the size for IKEA to sell them pre-made. 1
Poor QualityCarolineSurprisingly, this is one of the first IKEA products that completely failed me. The wood panels were not sanded and had jagged edges and splinters everywhere but that wasn't the main issue. The main issue was that whatever wood they selected had extremely inconsistent densities and hardness because when attempting to attach the two sides, one end, the screws went in beautifully. The other end, both sides of the base would only let half the screw in before stopping. Not even an power drill/screwdriver could get the screws more in. Would not recommend especially for the price. You'd be better off finding wood scraps and making a box yourself.1
Go to organizerTheresaCan not say enough on how much I love these. Sturdy, completely recycleable, holds a lot, easy to see what is inside. 5
Holes not drilled properlyLeiThere seems to be an issue with the most recent batch of this product. I’ve purchased many of these crate boxes over the years, and they’ve always worked great. However, the two I recently bought had misaligned holes that didn’t match up with the screws just as other customers have noted. I ended up drilling the holes myself to make them work, but if you’re not up for doing that, I’d suggest holding off on buying this product for now. Hopefully, this gets resolved in future batches!1
Could not put togetherAmaalSuper disappointed in this product, could not fit the nail into the side of the box making it impossible to put this together :(1
A strong, well-made boxSusanThe wooden crate as household decor has a long history in the world of dorm room/first apartment lore. This wooden crate is actually worth the money. Don't waste your time on cheaper plastic crates that bend and sag. When I needed some additional casual book storage, I bought these crates and I've been back for more.5
Improperly manufactured, holes do not align.ColinFor such a tiny product you would expect it to be an easy build... unfortunately, the holes you are meant to drill into for the very first step were NOT aligned properly in production, and so you are literally unable to complete a single step of construction for this product. I thought it was a one-off issue, which I could understand, but when I tried to assemble a second box of the same type and ran into the exact same hole-misalignment issue, it is obviously a manufacturing error.
Do not buy this product until they fix it! We had to throw both boxes in the trash the very same day we purchased it. I usually love and stand by my IKEA products, but this one is a total scam in quality and they really dropped the ball. Very disappointing :-(1
Hard to put it together, holes are not drilled correctlyJaneI bought two and was only able to put up one box because the holes were not drilled correctly and I had to use the correct pieces from two different packages. There's a misaligned hole in each of the package. I can't even screw in the screws with power tools, that's how misaligned the holes are. I've never bought a piece of Ikea furniture with this kind of bad quality, bought two of these from Ikea as-is couple years ago and they were in way better quality. 1
A Box Assembly Challenge!FrankIt's so difficult to put this together, simply because the screws are so small and there are no pilot holes. Seriously, even with the right tools, you're in for a treat. Please fix this for future customers.2
Not goodTiffanyHow hard is it to provide a simple crate? Returning2
Horrible horrible PamTwenty four tiny screws to screw in to HARD wood with no HOLES to guide the screws on the sides of the basket. Rip off - I have bought many other baskets just as sturdy and WAY easier to put together. Stay away from but something else 1
Good product but minor issues. BrookeNice overall but some of the screw holes weren’t drilled out. Also, the stickers on the bottom were non releasable so they were nearly impossible to remove. I needed the bottom to be the top for what I was using this for. Fairly easy to assemble even without holes drilled because wood was soft so not that bad.4
Nice enough… once assembled :SChaseCan hardly say more than the other recent reviews. In short: had to drill my own holes; screws were easy to strip; regular Philips doesn’t work (needs an ikea screwdriver kit — there is a head included in the set which is skinnier, and fits the screws better, preventing stripping); took so many screws; is more expensive than (reassembled) competitors (‘allowing doers to get more done’)… happy with the finished product but it took an hour or more to: red roll and realize I needed my ikea screwdriver kit. Frustrating experience. Hopefully they go back to the old design that others seem to speak of so fondly
Also, construction note: the bottom is made of 4 boards going longways. Underneath these four boards that make the bottom of the box on the inside, is a skinny board on either (small) side. The significance is this: if you have it on a shelf (say a cube organizer) and it sticks out either side, every time you pull the crate out, it doesn’t slide out; it catches on the back lip! 2
Wish I had read the reviews first. AmariI'm sitting here in a mess of "wood" scraps because I couldn't even be bothered to go buy additional screws, I shouldn't have to either. I have bought these before and assembled just fine but these are a mess. You can't even screw these screws in completely with a drill, they run into the nails already in stapled into the wood. So ridiculous. I'm mad I paid for what feels like a bad joke. 1
Wooden crateRobinThis is a great size and nice quality however they changed the assembly process. Instead of 8 screws it now takes 20! Leaving more room for error and poor fit. Please go back to side panels being pre assembled !! For the higher price it should at least be easier not harder to get together. Disappointing and may have me looking for cheaper, already assembled version elsewhere. 3
Bad news design RachelThese boxes used to be a breeze to assemble, but like all of the newer reviews, whomever did the pre drilling is not following the design correctly.
The holes are completely misaligned and weren't drilled through all the way
We had to buy new screws for it and drill our own holes.1
Assembly IssuesJulieWe bought two of these. It is not possible to put the crate together with just a Phillips screwdriver as suggested on the instructions.
The drill holes that are present for the side panels do not align properly. There are no drill holes present to attach each of the individual end pieces. There is barely an impression in the wood where the drill hole should be.
It's not worth the effort to put this together when we can buy a comparable crate that is already assembled for a lower price.
We do not object to assembling products if they are properly made and easy to assemble.
We are returning these.

Assembly is now a disasterKellyWe had purchased 4 of these in the past and loved them as a sturdy, easy way to keep toys organized. As multiple reviewers have now mentioned, the new assembly process is an absolute disaster. Multiple screws stripped, difficult getting screws into wood even with strong adults assembling, lack of pre-drilled holes on the side. You name it, it stinks. We are going to try to make these work by purchasing our own screws to assemble, but I wish that we did not have existing boxes that we are trying to match or I would return the whole thing. Not worth it. 1
