Versatile, relatively comfortable, fabric is awfulJenniferLynnI bought this couch about a year ago. It’s held up very well, except the color is not really as described. The “light gray” is really basically white. It stains SO easily, and the stains are impossible to get out. First I tried to spot treat, which lead to huge water marks. Then I used a carpet cleaning machine on it. Same thing, water marks and basically just spread the stain out. I decided to disassemble and drag it to the laundromat. I pretreated with Shout and OxiClean. First cycle, no stains were removed. I ran it a second cycle, which helped, but there was still a few stains remaining. Third cycle, no difference. I’m pretty disappointed and guess I’ll eventually just have to fork over the $200 for a new color. The darker gray wasn’t available when I ordered it, and I needed a couch ASAP since I didn’t have one. I thought since I didn’t have kids or dogs that it would be easy to get simple stains out, but this fabric is NOT forgiving. Oh and you also have to hang dry it and then iron it. Pretty cool you can wash the covers unlike most couches, but it’s a bit of a pain. It’s pretty comfortable, I’ve fallen asleep on it many times. I like to pull the bed part out and just spread out and watch a movie. I don’t want the added expense of a mattress topper, so if I have a guest over they can have my bed and I’ll sleep on the couch lol. It’s also very light, easy to move around, assemble and dissemble. I plan on having this couch another 5ish years at least.3
UkanaI bought this 3 months ago.this is perfect for my family5
The fabric material is terribleAvanehSo, I bought this a year ago,So far It's still firm and the sleeper works fine though we have used it a lot. However, the fabric started to look wierd, it got lint and fuzz. We have tried lint remover, and upholstery cleaners but nothing seems to work. We are now changing our sofa.2
Pull out mechanism does not workmdinNYCThis is great as a couch on its own. However, if you intend to use it as a sleeper bed - DO NOT BUY THIS COUCH. The pull out mechanism, once put together, means that the screws rub together too tight on the right hand side. This means you cannot pull the underpiece out to make it into a bed. In any event, I am now stuck with a couch which cannot be made into a bed. I am sure Ikea will offer a refund if I take the couch to a store. But this is just not an option for me. I've already had it assembled in my apartment (at great additional cost to me). And I wouldn't be able to get it out of my apartment without disassembling it (at further expense). The only solution would be for Ikea to send an assembler to my apartment to fix the issue themselves (without charge) - but even then, I do not think this error is fixable. I had this assembled by a professional IKEA installer, who said that this issue has only started occurring in the last 6 months, so perhaps Ikea changed one of the materials. IKEA - please can you help. I spent $700 on this to use as a bed, which it now cannot be used as.1
Everything we hoped for!peacefulcelebrationsI was a little worried when I read some of the reviews, but this sectional is amazing! We absolutely love it. We have been steadily using it for over 6 months with absolutely no problems. As long as you follow the directions perfectly to assemble, it should work perfectly. Super easy to slide out to make a bed and put back again. We have ours out most of the time to watch movies as a family - there are four of us and two dogs - plenty of room with some to spare. Our kiddos have had sleepovers on it and loved it. We have spilled a little chocolate, some spaghetti sauce, and even had the dogs get mud on it...simply scrubbed a little with barely soapy water and you can't tell at all - very impressed! Plus we adore the light blue color and back pillows are very comfy. Highly recommend!!!5
Very mehanntmanWe bought this sofa one year ago. It was great for the first 5ish months until someone spilled a little juice on it. Stains WILL NEVER come out of this fabric. I have tried EVERYTHING. It is pretty comfortable, but sleeping on it more than two nights tends to hurt the back. Also, be careful when lifting out the rest of the bed. My husband had to use his foot to hold down the bottom so it would swing up and it slammed down on his toe. If you decide to get this sofa, scotchgard it IMMEDIATELY.3
Great Sectional but Horrible BedTobiAALike the title says this is a nice product as a sectional and with a very nice look. I've had this sofa bed for 6 months and I wished I read the reviews before I bought it. The section that pulls out of the sofa to become a bed is now collapsing into itself. This started in the last two months. At first it happened on rare occasions and now it's gotten to every day. I honestly don't know what I can do to keep it propped up but since I live in a micro studio it's the only option I have as a bed. I am highly disappointed with IKEA. Clearly if all of these people are complaining about the same problems, you would think they would at least go back to the drawing board and fix the issue. Especially since we pay $700+ for this product. If you are looking into investing in a sofa bed (Key word bed) look somewhere else. Best of luck!2
Things went well at first but that didn"t last...BrwnsknfI purchased this sofa in 2017. I expected to get at least 5 good years out of it. I'm at year two and it is falling apart. The seat sinks into the storage underneath, which makes sitting uncomfortable. This sofa turned out to be a real junker. I shop at Ikea so much and I have never had this type of quality problem before. Yikes!1
Poor and terrible assistance from IkeaBia2018I've bought the HOLMSUND sleeper sofa less at September. The sofa was delivered and assembled on September 19th. On Oct 13th, I tried to open the part of the sofa so that it would become a sleeper, exactly the way of the instructions and exactly the way I've done at the store. Then, a piece of the sofa simply detached from the main structure. Ikea sent someone to fix it ( and he was really great! Done a good job and explained me how to manage the sofa) The new order number by that time was 411-314459805 and the reference number is: 159-44280968. Although he has made a really good job, on Dec 22nd, the same problem happened... and again the sofa is dismantled (Really bad timming to that, since I have guests for Christmas). Really poor piece if you’re planning to use it as a sleepper sofa eventually... I’ve sent a complain to Ikea and guess what? After 4 days they emailed me saying that I should take the sofa to the store to ask for a refund! I just wanted someone to come and fix it or replace it! Would never recommend this product to a friend!1
Loved it at first, but now is a safety hazard!Lauri80439I bought the HOLMSUND Sleeper sofa 1.5 years ago, I really loved it at first. It was comfortable enough, looked great and a really convenient way to add an additional sleeping space to our small house. However just recently the drawer that pulls out and up to turn the couch into the bed has started collapsing. The frame pushes out below it and the whole panel just falls right inside the frame. I am worried that someone is going to fall and hit their head on our coffee table. Unfortunately for some reason this is one of the few sofas that does not fall under the 10 year warranty and it won't qualify for the 365 day return policy as it has been 1.5 years. Now I am basically out $750. Very disappointed. I love IKEA - in fact we purchased our kitchen from them!! In looking at the reviews this must be a common problem.1
Great with some negativesTeeracerWe have owned this for couple years now. Here are details. PROS: - Affordable (we looked at sleepers that were easily more than twice this price, and we really didn't want to spend a ton.) - Fits our space perfectly, our room isn't huge. - Looks really good - Is an L shape - Is a sleeper - It converts easily - It's sturdy and seems like it'll last a long time. - It has arms at both sides (similar ones at IKEA only have an arm at one end) CONS: - The Nordvalla Beige gets dingy seats even when you're trying to be so careful. The sofa fabric is removable but not easily. We tried washing the dirty spots in place a few times but it didn't help. I made a darker cover for the seat portion so we don't have to see how grimey they are underneath. It actually looks great with the cover. - It's not extremely comfortable especially for sleeping on. It's quite hard. For when it's being slept on, we put down a poofy comforter underneath a bottom sheet to act as a topper and that helps a lot. - It's not a soft comfy sofa that you poof down into when you sit on it, like ones we looked at at fancy furniture stores for way more money. For me that is fine and I don't mind a firm sitting surface but I could see some people having to really get used to this firm of a sofa. And FYI, it was one of the more difficult to assemble IKEA things I have done (and I actually enjoy assembling IKEA stuff). This one got a bit frustrating. In general we're super happy with it despite the cons.4
poor quality and customer servicedecomomFor some reason, the review I wrote before this one was rejected. I didn't give any personal info or use foul language so I can only presume it was rejected because I criticized IKEA's customer service. After putting the entire sofa together, my husband realized that the velcro is missing from the sleeper section of the sofa and that the mechanism to pull it out and set it down doesn't work without a struggle. It actually comes unhinged from the sofa body. The one in the store worked easily. I tried contacting customer service to no avail and also attempted to contact the corporate office. I haven't been able to speak to anyone there either. There is no way to contact the store. Now we're going to have to disassemble the sofa and bring it back to have someone look at it without knowing beforehand if they have a replacement part is in stock.2
More comfortable than expecteditsmeyeyaAfter a long battle my furniture finally arrived. It took me about 2 hours to put everything together. It is a bit spacious for my studio but nothing a divider can't fix. The storage is great and roomy. The only con I have the couch is not even 3 months old and the hook that is used for the chaise to prevent it from sliding broke. Is there anyway I can get replacement parts?3
Beautiful couch!KatieBeth00I bought this couch over the weekend and had help from my parents and sisters assembling it tonight. It was intimidating at first, but as we got going it wasn’t bad at all. It is firm but comfortable and so, so pretty! I did remove one star because one piece did arrive damaged... but it’s hidden inside where the extra linens will go. Because nobody can see it, it wasn’t worth replacing, but if you spend this much money you certainly want the pieces to be flawless when they arrive! I would definitely buy this again!4
andfabI bought this 2.5 months ago and we love it! We keep it open the entire time, so we all lounge about, which is cozy. It is firmer, yet comfortable. It also looks good. I tried the sofa in Ikea and noticed theirs was softer, so I'm sure with wear, it will soften up. I've had 2 people sleep on it. One said she normally likes softer mattresses and slept well. The other, I put a foam top on it and she slept well. She did mention she prefers softer mattresses though. As an aside, my neighbor has it and is really happy. Her guests have slept well, she said.5
