Broken Assembly PartsPaulThe actual furniture looks very nice. The directions were written incorrectly. This caused assembly parts to break. Have been waiting weeks for the new parts with a partially assembled HEMNES in my living room.2
Beautiful addition to my entry of my home.DORISBeautiful piece of furniture to place my shoes in a out of site location for easy organization. Easy to assemble and very high-quality for the value priced item.5
Buy it alreadyTanyaThis piece was easy to assemble and fit beautifully in our space. It's a little awkward getting the shoe bins in for the first time but once you get the hang of it it's easy. What you cannot see in the description is that the back is not solid and has two support bars so you don't have to worry about it covering up an outlet or a light switch. They perfectly fit around ours in an average home. It fits flush to the wall at the top so if you need to plug something in drop the cord down before you secure the unit to the wall. I bought this because my children had shoes all over the top of my stairs. My little kids think this cabinet is fun so they are now putting their shoes away each day. I can fit all my regular shoes in the top bin and my two younger children split the bottom bin with several pairs of shoes each. It is big enough to fit women's shorter boots or hiking boots. It will also fit kids snow boots.5
Recommend!ChelseaVery cool and unique product! A little tricky to put together, but not impossible!5
Great product, Very good qualityRichardGreat product, Very good quality but expensive not the easiest to assembler but I think that Is to be expected to some degree with a higher quality product that is well designed and built well once assembled5

Great solution to shoe clutterNANCYMy husband and I both own a lot of shoes: sandals, hikers, dress shoes, athletic shoes, every day run around shoes, and our closet just didn't have anymore room. We had been looking at this piece of furniture for awhile and finally decided to get it. Assembly was fairly easy and straight forward, as was attaching it to the wall. The top drawer and shelf are great at being catchalls for keys, and other stuff that you sometimes find yourself stuffing into your pockets as you leave the house, but I did manage to find room to put a couple of small plants on the top to "class it up" ;) Anyone who has seen it, has complimented us on it. It's more useful that we thought, and are so glad that we finally broke down and purchased it!5
Great Shoe StorageDIANEI love the Hemnes line however it is very soft wood so can get dented or scuffed easily.5
It needs to be fasten to the wallMCstarI wish that the shoe cabinet could be free standing to use. After assembled, I found out that it needs to be secured to the wall. Since, I'm renting, I'm trying to make less holes on the wall if possible.3
Great shoe holderGreggDawg64my wife purchased this for her MANY shoes and it works fine.5
Hide my shoes!MWasiI particularly like that the HEMNES Shoe cabinet is slim and leaves walking space in our entry way. This was a nice surprise find on my last IKEA visit.5
Finished installing last night, a couple issuesDuqwichBought it over the weekend and spent a couple lazy days putting it together. Yes, I could have done it much faster, but my helper wanted to play a ton since pop was on the floor. The overall shell build is nice. A bit taller than it needs to be. The interior doors are OK. I wish they were made of wood or metal and I'm worried the pins that hold the shoe compartments in would be a little more robust. I have a fear they'll wear out fairly quick. Like others, I wish this was a freestanding unit with four legs, necessitating mounting it to the wall was not that convenient. Less convenient was the fact that no wall-mounting hardware was included. Thankfully I have tool boxes full of machine screws and wall anchors. Others may not be as fortunate. Unfortunately when everything was assembled, I found the last part of the install, the sliding drawer, I was missing one of the mount screw holders. Instead was a metal slug about the same weight as the others. I guess this thing passed inspection since it was the proper weight. Fortunately it was only one, and the drawer won't see a ton of weight in it so I'm not worried about it. The assembly of the rest of the drawer was a bit of a pain. The screws holding the roller brackets in actually kept colliding with the roller wheels on the shell itself, so the drawer would make a thwack halfway, and then just grind against the half millimeter or so of exposed screw head to get past it. It was such a problem, I ended up removing one of the screws and replacing with just glue so the wheels wouldn't constantly encounter this issue. To resolve it, Ikea would need to make the bracket screw holes a little more recessed for the screw head to fit more flush, or have looser tolerances for the wheels to prevent collision. Other than that, it's a nice looking unit. Very sturdy so far, and makes keeping my dirty shoes out of the rest of the house much more convenient. Now I just need to find a new key rack to replace the one I had before to complement this.....4
good cabinetziamriEasy to assemble. Good quality wood and hardware. compact design so it fits even if you have it installed in the hallway.5
Great for uses other than shoes!fRitaAI bought this to go in our kitchen to hold plastic wrap, aluminum foil, ziplock bags etc. in the top bin and in the bottom bin cookie sheets and cutting boards.... the top drawer met my husband’s request to put his “stuff”. We have been using it like this for three months and are so happy with it!!!5
ExcellentMarty1215We are very happy with this,ez puttpgether.5
Awesome Storage!!!Anonymous reviewerWe bought the cabinet a few weeks ago and couldn’t be happier about the purchase. Cabinets holds wells to wall even with the constant opening and closing of the drawers for shoes. We are a family of 4 and everyone has at least 5 pairs of shoes in the cabinet. The top drawer is an absolute bonus for keeping small items stored away and leave a clean and organized appearance on the top of cabinet. Fits great in a narrower hallway or perfect for the entryway to keep area organized and tidy. Would buy this shoe cabinet again.5
Solid constructionMCBowmanThis unit replaced another Ikea shoe storage unit that just could not keep up with the wear and tear of a family of 4. This unit is much better built, and I expect it to last much, much longer.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the wood species, it is durable, beautiful, renewable and recyclable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood. This way, every tree is put to good use that little extra.

Function solution

Room for more shoes in the hall

HEMNES shoe cabinet has two deep compartments, each with room for two rows of shoes. This means that you can hide away at least twelve pairs of shoes in them - and get a neat and organized hall in the bargain. The compartments also fold down, so you can find the shoes you need quickly and easily.
