Reviews

Height is wrongRashidIKEA lists the height of this as 76cm without the top, the same as the narrower 1 drawer model. The actual height is 83cm, without the top, the same as the non-open model without the lower shelf. This mistake appears to be everywhere, including in the 3D models of the item, and the PDF catalogs. In addition, the white of this does not match other Hemnes vanities, and appears more like primer than paint, with the good grain and color showing through.1
Single sink doesnt wornJulieUnfortunately I did not have an opportunity to read the reviews before purchase but I did discuss at lenghth with the Ikea regarding using the single instead of double sink and they assured me that the single sink would work but it doesn't. I don't have the option to modify this so I have to return this and it's a 5 hour trip just to return this.1
Crappy Drawer hardware.ZachBought this with a single sink top, and did not have any issues with the drain. The cabinet drawer slide on the other hand do not work at all, and get stuck every time we use them.3
Does not work with single sinkMichelleEven though Ikea advertises that this works with the single sink (and even sells it as a set - Item #794.772.78), it does not. It requires modifications/cutouts to the drawers in order to fit the plumbing. Makes me wonder if Ikea has ever actually put it together with the plumbing intact. Very frustrating! We ended up returning it because we didn't want to go through the modifications needed to make it work. I agree with the other reviewer that Ikea's responses to the reviews are unacceptable and insulting. I generally have been very happy with Ikea products, but this one was a disappointment. Also, the paint on the cabinet is pretty thin. Not sure how it will wear in a bathroom long term.1
IKEA can do betterSandiI got this vanity with a single sink. Like most others, the plumbing does not fit with the top drawers, so modifications need to be done in order to make it work. This is infuriating. And the responses from IKEA - “We’re sorry it didn’t work” are unacceptable and insulting. I have now spent time modifying a design. Which, with my extra time, has more than doubled the cost of the unit. Don’t buy this unless you’re looking for utter frustration.2
Single sink does not fitIliaAs other reviewers have mentioned, the single sink does not fit into this vanity. You have to saw off inner sides of the upper drawers - or lift the sink an inch using a spacer.1
Some adjusting required.KarenLove the look but the single sink is not intended for this vanity. We had to put in a 1 inch divider between the sink and vanity to make room for the plumbing. Also had to do some adjusting to get the drawer fronts aligned and stop any rubbing.2
Getting the drain right is trickyMatthewWe have a lot of Hemnes furniture in our lower bedrooms. Put this in our bathroom with a single bowl IKEA sink. Ikea's drain to get around the upper drawers only works if the house plumbing is exactly where it needs to be. I have the tools and skills to modify the drawers to clear the drain. Make sure you are able to work your way through the drain installation.3
Needs revision to accommodate single sinkGalenLike other reviewers, I really wanted to love this (and with some work, I now do). I wanted more counter space and storage in my bathroom but don't need double sinks. The Odensvik single 48" sink should fit this perfectly, but for two issues: First, the support on the front center hits the sink basin, requiring a curved or angled cut to make space. Second, the drawers have clever cut-outs for double sink drains, but no accommodation for a single drain, again requiring cutting into drawers to make room for the center drain (which MUST run perpendicularly to the back of the sink, limiting installation options). The modifications are easy enough with 10 minutes of measuring and sawing, but are permanent. A single-sink option would make this a much more versatile (and 5-star) product, and would have saved me a day of work. The other 48" Hemnes vanity cabinet appears to support single-sink tops, so there's no real reason why this couldn't be adjusted to do so also.3
Great vanity ONLY FITS DOUBLE sinkCatherineI love this vanity and we thought the single sink top would fit, but the top drawers do not clear the drain by a scant 1/8". We kept all the pieces and did some simple modifications to the drawers so we could have exactly what we wanted. Otherwise LOVE the look and style. It would be an easy fix by Ikea to make this work for both the double sink top and the single.3

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the tree species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.
