It did take me two hours, but once built it definitely has more features than any ikea piece I’ve built before and it feels sturdy and looks good.
Attractive and UsefulMarcyI purchased this, the two drawer version, and the two-drawer large filing cabinet. After putting one together, my husband and I became much more efficient at assembling the other two. A challenge, but not impossible. No major problems. I would call the office furniture that IKEA sells as office lite. These products work fine for my home office as a writer. I don't know how they would work for someone who really needs to do heavy duty filing or have a lot of supplies. The cabinets are attractive. White, clean lines and modular, I will say the depth of the drawers was disappointing. I was used to the industrial type of metal filing cabinets and deep desk drawers. I bought a new desk too from IKEA that does not have desk drawers, so I hoped the two, modular Galant cabinets would make up for that. They don't do that, but I've made do. Overall, I am satisfied with my choices of the two Galant modular cabinets and the two drawer, filing drawer. Didn't use the locks due to the reviews.

The Worst Instructions I’ve Ever SeenDavidI am a long time IKEA fan and customer. I have built many IKEA products and other companies’ “kit” furniture. I’ve seen and read terrible and confusing translations. I have never had anything be as bad as the Galant Drawer Unit. It took two of us, a very experience handyman and a retired engineer 2 1/2 hours to put it together so that it actually worked. The construction was OK. The instructions were worse than useless. If we did not need the unit immediately, I would have sent it back. Please, IKEA fix these instructions.

Almost perfectAnonymous reviewerWe always need extra storage space and I need this in my office. The way the top drawer is attached with plastic tabs (124592) count on it to break. You need force to push it in and that make it break. I would have expected something that would last as long as this unit. Disappointing.

Drawer with issuesAnonymous reviewerThis is a nice drawer but some of the instructions are not clear. After spending a couple of hours putting this drawer together I still have issues with the way the little top drawer closes and once its done you can not unhook the drawer to adjust it, but at the end of the day the quality is good

Great Little Desk AccessoryAnonymous reviewerVery nice add-on to any home office desk. Using it with the Bekant sit/stand desk & it complements and fits perfectly. Unclutters the desktop by providing storage for typical office necessities (pens, highlighters, stapler, stationery, etc.). At first I thought it a bit pricey, but when I got into assembling it, (a little more complicated than I expected, but if you take your time it makes sense), and I saw how well-designed it was (drawer pulls, glides, & locking mechanism), I realized that it is worth a bit more. When I saw how nice it looked with the Bekant, I became a fan.
Cheap Particleboard and VeneerAnonymous reviewerFor something this price, I don't really understand why IKEA uses particleboard and flaky veneer. The veneer was already chipped when I opened the box. There didn't seem to be any big damage to the box however. I assembled it anyway as I didn't want to drag this thing back to the store for some cosmetic damage. A few days after, I notice a new chip on the bottom of one of the drawers. How is this drawer so fragile when it's made for office use and has a 10 year warranty? The combination lock is nice though, but I'm not sure how durable the mechanism for keeping all the drawers locked are as they are plastic. Pretty disappointing for the GALANT series.

What is particleboard?
Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded.
