Reviews

Very wobbly and shelves pop out too easilyJaredThe structure is very unstable. They give you screws to mount it against wall but the thing is still super flimsy. The shelves also pop out really easily, making it hard to move around and place in a different spot. The wood is also of poorer quality than expected.2
Garage StorageRoyalBought 4 of these to organize my garage. Great space and look nice!5
Sturday, handsome, easy to assembleVerified BuyerWe wanted to add some sturdy yet attractive shelving to our garage and discovered the new-to-us Bror at Ikea online. The reviews were positive, we loved the look, and so we bought a section of 3 uprights at the deeper depth. I loved how easily they went together (did it by myself, no 2nd person) and love how they look with the wooden shelves in place. They seem very sturdy and have excellent capacity. We bought 3 more and it's really helped change the usability of our small garage for the better. The option of different widths and depths and looks is an excellent feature and I'd highly recommend.5
overall very good after 6 monthsVerified BuyerCons: Plastic clips at the bottom to link shelves were very very hard to assemble Paper instructions are a pain, use the online instructions Expensive compared to other sturdy but not as attractive similar shelving units.Could get a better deal at a hardware store. Pros: Very sturdy, well made, think they will last for decades Assembly is pretty easy other than the comments in the cons above Attractive, look much better than other shelving units that are this sturdy. Other: Would be nice if it had adjustable feet for uneven floor Overall: Very happy with them. I plan to buy more if the price comes down or if they ever are on sale.4
Verified BuyerMake sure you either have 8+ arms or get the instructions online because they roll them into the package, rendering the paper copy totally useless unless you have several hours to set it under books after unpacking and before putting this together. The tool provided to hammer the shelves down was too short and didn't fit straight on, a towel worked better than the tool. Should also include a warning for all the sharp pieces that can cut you as you put it together3
Excellent Quality Shelving for Our GarageRachaelWe just built a new house, and as the garage is nice and freshly drywalled/painted, we were seeking a shelving solution that was nicer than most units you find for garages. We are delighted with the quality of this Bror unit. (Tip: Definitely buy the hooks and add-on small shelves to hang on the two sides of the unit. These are wonderful, quality additions and help provide even more space.) We are using most of this Bror unit as a place to stow the clear IKEA storage bins as I do not care for open storage since there is always so much dust and grime that accumulates. We do have a few items stored in an open fashion, but mostly we have items stowed in the clear plastic bins. This unit may seem pricey, but it is well worth the investment.5

The strongest storage we’ve made so far

Does your garage sometimes feel like a lost civilization? Pyramids of paint cans grouped around the car, sports equipment you can’t remember even using and forgotten hobbies in boxes stacked high. IKEA product developer Lina Ringefelt wanted to help out. The outcome: the heavy-duty BROR storage system.

Lina and her team researched peoples’ garage needs and found that there’s an interest in everything from full-on hobby rooms, to a place to pot plants and work on cars, as well as storage for everything from heavy power tools to seasonal equipment. Many people also want lockable, closed and open storage that could hold very heavy loads.

Creating very strong storage

“I was inspired by classic industrial furniture typically used in workshops during the 50’s, as well as Meccano, to create the design,“ Lina says. “The idea was to create these beautiful storage units that have double the weight carrying capacity of any other shelves we were making at the time.” Engineer Philip Nedergaard made sure that the design held true to the heavy-duty ambition. “We built some of what we call ‘worst-case scenarios’ by loading the shelves high with concrete bags to really test that the shelves could safely hold almost anything you would want to keep in a garage,“ he says.

Combining good looks and practicality

The result is an adjustable series of shelving units with closed and open storage, including a trolley that serves as a movable shelf and workstation. But perhaps the series biggest calling card is its combination of looks and function. BROR could definitely be used in the home too.

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.

Quality

A real tough one

BROR storage system can withstand a lot. The widest and deepest shelves actually hold 285 lbs. and the smallest shelves can hold 154 lbs. This means that you can store both tires and heavy flower pots without problems. We know this since we tested the storage system by filling the shelves with concrete bags – all to ensure that they can safely hold almost anything you can imagine storing, regardless if the surroundings are tropically moist or dry and freezing cold.
