The old ones I have definitely have a finish to them. I checked the product description and it definitely says it should be ratan and clear acrylic lacquer.

Rough and unfinishedAnonymous reviewerI'm shocked that these are well reviewed. The basket interior is VERY rough and has no sanding/finish to it. Putting them together they shed everywhere. Putting any cloth inside would cause catches/tears. I would be concerned about my kids getting splinters.

Love them, but not the price increaseRebeccaWe love these and have bought a number of them over the years. Over time, if you have heavy items in them and use them a lot, they can end up breaking. In 2022 they were only $16.99, but now the price has jumped by almost $10! I understand a little bit of inflation, but that amount seems crazy, especially when I have to replace them every few years.
Almost no assembly required, and they look good and function very wellAudieThese are sturdy, easy to make ready (just open them up and drop the bottom inside), and they look good, especially with the black cube-shelving unit I placed them in. I bought 6 of them, and 1 of them was a little off in the manufacturing, so the bottom almost did not fit inside. But I made it work, and they're fine. Good value.

They were all different shades, the lightest looking like a bleached wood all the way to the golden tone shown in the IKEA pictures. Cannot use these baskets together as intended. Very disappointed since I ordered the same baskets two years ago and they were all consistent in color and they are beautiful.

HORRIBLE BASKETBridgetteAlthough it looks great. It's a horrible design! I expected more from you Ikea. As soon as you put anything with the slightest amount of weight in it and pick it up to put it in the kallax, the bottom falls out!!!! I bought 5 of these needless to say I'm returning all of them! This really sucks especially since I'm an hour drive away! DO BETTER IKEA!!!!! I only gave it 1 star because there isn't a zero star.
Awesome basketLindaThis is a great product! Fits in my Kallex shelf perfectly. I just need one more, I have 6 and love them. I am a major crafter and iKea has more than met my needs with the products I have ordered!

What is rattan?
Rattan is a strong yet lightweight and flexible material made from the rattan plant’s stem. It can be used both whole and split into thinner materials that are braided into things like furniture and baskets. Rattan belongs to the palm family and climbs along trees, though no trees are required to be felled when the rattan cane is harvested. Since it is a natural material and the products are often handmade by skilled craftspeople, each object gets a completely unique look.
