The wall shelf has one bevelled and one smooth edge on the long side, so you can choose the side you want facing the room depending on which of the two different styles you like the most.
You can cut the wall shelf to exactly the length you need and use GRANHULT bracket to hide the cut edge.

Adjustment for US construction recommendedJohnGiven that the bracket has maybe ½ inch of support on either side of the mounting holes, and generally studs are 16" apart, this shelf is too short and should actually be 32½ inches so that more of it ends up in the bracket. giving greater strength.

Five stars for the shelf. Odd that no brackets come with this SandyCalled customer service to ask if they could suggest the right bracket for this shelf since there sold separately. His response was to go to a hardware store and find some brackets😵💫 I kept asking if there’s anything in their store that he could suggest that would work for this. I was on hold for a bit he then suggested the RAMSHULT brackets. I’ve read several reviews on here that these are difficult to put up since there was no screws, etc. He then suggested that I go in YouTube for instructions. Then for some odd reason we were disconnected. I think his head was spinning with all my questions. Anyway, I may try these or look on my own. I guess.

Not sized properly for mounting to studsGabeThis shelf, when combined with the Granhult hangers, results in mounting hole spacing that is just barely too narrow to mount into 2 studs. Why, Ikea? Why? I hear this is a common practice within the company, and if true, is enough to disqualify their products from use in my home. The shelf, even unloaded, is quite heavy and ought to be designed to be mounted to studs.

But, as they say…..you get what you pay for & I don’t regret my purchase at all. Well, maybe a little bit when I get my credit card bill. Ha! Ha! Just kidding!
