The wall shelf has one bevelled and one smooth edge on the long side, so you can choose the side you want facing the room depending on which of the two different styles you like the most.
You can cut the wall shelf to exactly the length you need and use GRANHULT bracket to hide the cut edge.

Great shelves but…JanethThese shelves are amazing pretty sturdy and don’t feel cheap. Although I would recommend using longer screws than what were provided. I had my shelf up for a year and more. It recently fell but you can tell that the screws were way too short for the anchors and the weight of the shelf.

Strange choice of lengthGabrielSized to just miss being able to attach both brackets to studs. If the shelf was 33” wide, the wall mounting holes in the brackets would be right at 32”, perfectly aligning with wall studs. Not sure what IKEA was thinking by making the shelf just 31-1/2”. I’m guessing it was a math error, but it’s a shame they haven’t corrected it.

Too heavy CelesteThis shelf can’t hold anything let alone itself. I could tell when I was putting it above my bed that it probably wasn’t going to stay in the wall and less than 2 hours later it came crashing down. Glad I wasn’t sleeping under it.

Too heavy!SallyIt’s a nice shelf and the brackets are attractive, but no way will this shelf stay on the wall unless it’s screwed into a stud. Unfortunately the size doesn’t correspond to the studs. It’s very heavy on it’s own and I bought it to put cookbooks on but it just won’t work. I’m going to have to return it.

Gorgeous shelf but way heavier than it looks!AndreaI bought this shelf to put some stuffed animals on to clear up room. I thought that with the shelf being made of particleboard, it would be light, but it is hefty. I would recommend attaching it to a stud because I don’t think a plaster wall could support it. After attaching it, I love how they look! They have a really clean look and can probably hold more than the 22 lbs. Ikea estimates.

Not wide enoughJeffreyIKEA engineers need to rethink the width. This is a heavy shelf and the width with the brackets is 30.5 inches to just miss the wall studs spacing which would be 32 inches. Adding 1.5 inches would prevent wall damage and injury. Make this shelf 33 inches so when the brackets are added the shelf is 32 inches wide.
