Wobbly and impossible to keep straightNataliaThis 5' tall besta unit is a waste of money. 3 weeks in and it has never worked as intended. It is wobbly, unsafe and impossible to align. The lack of a nailed backing may be the reason why this frame can't stay straight and is wobbly, despite of being perfectly leveled using a bubble level on every direction. I even tried adding metal corner joints and ran a metal string across the back to try to put pressure enough but nothing can fix this piece of horrible furniture. After a while, because it is wobbly, the screws become lose so you can never win. I have spent at least 20 hours on this and it is the same. I bought a combination of 2 drawers and a door. Because it is never even, the door never aligns, then the drawers become misaligned. We own a lower Besta frame and it has worked just fine for 2 years. DO NOT BUY THIS!
Poor qualityAlexVery poor quality. It wobbles with light pressure. I think issue with plastic fasteners. We have old 10 years old besta and it’s rock solid. New one is a piece of garbage.
Value goodMarvaEasy to assemble. Good quality and sturdy
Measurements are incorrectJessicaThe assembled unit it actually 15.5 deep not 15.75 as published, a full quarter inch shorter. This discrepancy has messed up custom cabinetry I had built around the size. I always though IKEA published measurements were precise, but apparently not.
Love all three of themMichelePutting all three of them together by myself was easy. The frame itself is sturdy but because the backboard is made out of cardboard it may seem wobble but it is not. I’ve moved all three of them several times and had no problems at all. I did have one issue. Quality control must have been sleeping because one of the bookshelves had scratches.
Do Not Purchase!DonShelves drop because they push sides away from pins. Still not fixed when they’ve known this long of the poor construction!👿👿👿👿👿
Wobbly hollow plastic garbage. Do not buy.BillI couldn't be more disappointed with this product. I'm a long time IKEA fan and very handy. The corners are not remotely stiff enough to stabilize this product. A single finger can flex the frame over 1 cm, even with the back and shelves installed. One edge was crushed in the box and it's just hollow plastic on the vertical components.//
I'm thinking about a return, additional bracing, etc. All sorts of things that aren't remotely needed on other IKEA products which are still particle board. The frame is too thin and the connections are too flimsy. There also seems to be QC issues because it was difficult to get the top board flush with the sides - I basically had to over-tighten it to get it close. Normal torque left about a 1 mm are gap.//
Honestly I can't believe the price and quality of Besta. You should only buy if it's really the only solution and you can secure it with additional bracing or wall attachment.
Don’t use the adhesiveConnieIf you’re going to stack these, don’t use the adhesive that comes with it, it takes off a layer of the veneer
Cheap quality, plastic partsLeslieI didn’t have high expectations for this but I don’t think they could have cut any more corners than possible.
The back piece is basically a foldable plastic board. The entire box is flimsy and will wobble even after tightening everything. I should have read the description more but it is honeycomb. When I flipped one of the pieces around, I could hear chips inside falling. It reminded me of those rain makers. lol
Wobbly frame AditiI wish I had read the reviews in detail before purchasing. Despite following the assembly instructions to the t, the frame sways sideways.
The space between the frame and wall is also not even to hook it securely to the wall.
IKEA should take customers reviews seriously. Looiking at all the reviews it sounds like an issue with the product and not any issue with assembly.
UNSTABLE! UNSTABLE! UNSTABLE!EdwardWe used the BESTA configurator and designed our own shelf. It was perfect... on paper. Once assembled, it is the most unstable shelf I have ever seen, the whole shelf sways and everything is hanging on by a thread. Good luck trying to move it. Don't worry about it being unsafe for kids, this shelf is unsafe for adults. A towel on the top shelf might tip it over.
BESTA may work if you plan on anchoring every piece into the wall and using as a built-in. Beware half the hardware is plastic.
We opted for IKEA for an simple and affordable solution BUT is ridiculous how poorly designed/made these have come.
Absolute garbage!MeganDesigned a built in and bought it. It is literally the weight of cardboard. Unsteady, flimsy, clearly won’t last long. Would love to return this $1200 worth of garbage but alas it’s assembled and I live over 200 miles from a store. I have always been amazed with quality of ikea products but wow, besta truly sucks
Looks goodBeverleyEasy assembly as usual!
Nice cabinet for under TVDanielSmooth clean minimalist look. The only problem I have is that the leg mounting nuts are not straight. Not really noticeable with the included legs but when I installed the Osarp 3 ⅞ legs they are crooked with no way to adjust
Difficult to assembleJanetWith a bad wrist, I struggled terribly trying to assemble this. It is a lovely piece of furnature, but not being able to use a power drill makes this piece not for people with issues. I still don't have the doors on all of them.
Surprisingly low qualityKomnieveWe added wooden doors, hinges, and shelves to this which were all excellent quality. The frame, however, is surprisingly cheap. I wonder if it can handle any weight. Our total for two fully configured came to about $800. Would have happily paid $100 more to get a higher quality frame.
Quality deterioration - Worse than made in China now?BillyNot sure what happened, but I bought 2 of these 3-4 years ago, even stack them on each other and they were solid. I just bought one more and was surprised to see that the shelf is now wiggling after assembled. The part that was holding the metal stakes are now made of plastic, and the tolerances are still off. Honestly, this is the worst furniture that I have put together in the past 20 years, including many cheap shelves that I’ve bought from Walmart that’s made in China. Very disappointing.
White oak color looks more gray than in photoKiranI wasn’t able to see this in store so I ordered based on the look online and the white oak color is much more gray looking than the warm golden color online. It doesn’t match with my other shelves I had to purchase from a different store.
Space saver cabinetDebbieGreat for my space, slim and well made. Very happy
UnstableHannahThe most wobbly bookcase, not worth it. Regret my purchase but we live too far away to return.
