IKEA US is expanding its benefits to include reimbursement for eligible travel expenses for identified medical procedures, including abortion, when the service is not available within reasonable distance of a co-worker’s home or in their state of residence.

At IKEA, we are always working toward the creation of a more equitable world. IKEA Retail U.S. believes that safe access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion, and the ability for persons to make private decisions about their health and well-being, are essential to advancing gender equity. IKEA Retail U.S. supports the fundamental right of Americans to make reproductive decisions and exercise control over their own bodies, and we are committed to ensuring our co-workers are supported in accessing the reproductive healthcare they need – regardless of where they live.

Supporting reproductive rights affords choices, and that’s why providing benefits for family planning that are inclusive of co-workers at every life stage is representative of our values. IKEA Retail U.S. has a long history of providing these benefits to all co-workers enrolled in our health plan and this will continue. Our co-worker healthcare plan includes access to abortion as well as paid time off for co-workers to see to their health and well-being. In addition, we are in the process of expanding our benefits to include reimbursement for eligible travel expenses for identified medical procedures when the services are not available within a reasonable distance of a co-worker’s home or in their state of residence, including abortion, fertility, gender affirmation services and bariatric surgery.
