Conshohocken, PA – [December 7, 2021] – IKEA U.S. today announced that it is closing its Upper East Side planning studio in January 2022 and actively searching for a new Manhattan location for its smaller store format. The Upper East Side location is the first generation of planning studios for IKEA U.S. and IKEA is continuously testing, exploring and developing formats to meet its customers where they are.

“IKEA is continuously looking to create a better customer experience, while ensuring our business remains viable and relevant now and, in the future,” said Linda Santing, Area Vice President, IKEA U.S. “As we position our business for long-term growth and investments, we had to reevaluate our Upper East Side location due to the high rent and the lower-than-expected foot traffic. We remain committed to the New York City area and look forward to securing a new home for our planning studio.”

Beginning December 18, 2021, IKEA is no longer offering appointments in the current Upper East Side location. All existing appointments will be transferred to alternate IKEA locations within the tri-state area, where the same planning services will be provided. All Upper East Side co-workers affected by this closure will be given opportunities to transition to roles in other parts of the business at IKEA Brooklyn, IKEA Queens or other NY market units.

IKEA looks forward to sharing details about the planning studio’s new location, which will continue to complement the IKEA locations in Queens, Brooklyn, Elizabeth, Long Island, and Paramus for an even more convenient shopping experience. In addition, IKEA opened a customer fulfilment center in Staten Island in recent years to support demand in the market.
