IKEA U.S. Applauds Introduction of the Equality Act

Today, IKEA U.S. commends the introduction of the Equality Act in Congress, a bill that represents a significant step in our nation’s journey towards equality for all. We are proud to have supported prior versions of this legislation since 2017 and urge Congress to swiftly pass this important bill.

As a purpose-led organization, IKEA U.S. believes that equality is a human right, not a privilege. That is why we have included gender identity and sexual orientation employment protections for all employees since 2013 and continually work to be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community. IKEA believes that all people deserve to be treated equally not only in employment, but also in areas like housing and other public accommodation. Currently, millions of Americans live in states or municipalities without comprehensive LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination protections, and we must do our part to advocate for change. The Equality Act would extend the same basic nondiscrimination protections to LGBTQ+ people that are already provided to other protected groups in federal law. We are proud to stand alongside countless other companies, advocates, and members of the LGBTQ+ community in support of this legislation.
