IKEA Statement on CPSC Determination
IKEA U.S. thanks the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for publishing its determination on a mandatory furniture safety standard and recommending the implementation of the ASTM 2057-23 standard today. After the recent passage of the Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth (STURDY) Act, the adoption of this standard will represent the next major step forward in protecting the health and safety of children and creating a safer life at home for families throughout the country.
Furniture tip-over remains a serious home safety issue and IKEA is fully committed to being an on-going part of the solution. We believe this new mandatory standard is the best way to provide clarity to manufacturers, build consumer trust, set a level playing field and most importantly, reduce tip-over incidents.
At IKEA, the vision is to create a better everyday life for the many people by offering well-designed, functional and affordable, high-quality home furnishing, produced with care for people and the environment.
