Book storage with character

These tips can give your books new looks, whether you show them off or hide them away.

Create a book display gallery wall. Spotlight your favorite reads. With classics in a display box, they’re out in the open and protected. Books with eye-catching covers can live on picture ledges that hold some weight. Break things up with smaller picture ledges for paperbacks in progress.

Sort (and hide) in book storage boxes. They’ll maximize space, unify the room and keep your books easily accessible. Divide them by subject, owner, author, whatever. Children’s books can go in lower boxes. We played with labelling the boxes by threading fabric as letters.

Give your bookcase a plot twist. Rearrange! Use whatever technique (or two) feels good to you. Group by color. Alternate vertical rows and horizontal stacks. Leave pockets of air to work in decorative pieces. Shorter bookcases give you space on top to show off more style.

We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial warranties and your right to return the products will be lost.
