IKEA 2016 Chests and Dresser Safety Recall

In 2016, we recalled 17.3 million chests and dressers due to the risk of tip-over accidents.

At IKEA, your safety is our priority. That’s why we’re asking you to check your IKEA dresser. You may have bought it years ago, or you may have bought it secondhand yesterday.

If you have a recalled IKEA chest or dresser, we want you to take action, today.  Return it to your nearest IKEA store, and we’ll pay you for it. We’re offering you a cash refund, or a IKEA refund card of a higher amount.  You can use the IKEA refund card to help buy a replacement dresser.

Some recalled dressers were made differently after the 2016 recall

Example: Recalled MALM have a recessed toekick. Non-recalled MALM has a toekick that’s flush with the bottom drawer.

If the toekick is recessed, it’s always recalled.

Look for the date stamp

IKEA products will have a date stamp that tells you when the product was manufactured. A recalled dresser will have a date stamp code with a number lower than “1622”. IKEA date stamps are generally located under the top panel of the chest of drawer or sometimes on the inside of a side panel.
