Why do black marks appear on plates after using cutlery?
Sometimes the metal in cutlery can leave thin, black or dark streaks on the plate. Different plate materials have varying susceptibility to scratches; for example, it is often more visible on porcelain made of earthenware and feldspar porcelain. However, there are things you can do to prevent marks or to remove them afterward. Enlarge this answer to read more.
Prevent marks on the plate
Use rinse aid in the dishwasher to make the plates less sensitive. Avoid using salt if you don't have hard water, and don't forget to check that the dishwasher tablet also doesn't contain salt.
Remove marks from the plate
If the streaks are already on the porcelain, they can actually be removed. Use stovetop cleaner spray/cream, or citric acid with a little water. Rub thoroughly with a soft sponge, then wash and rinse the porcelain before use.
