If a kitchen design created in the METOD planning tool becomes locked, it may be because an IKEA kitchen specialist is working on a quotation, or because the order for your kitchen has already been placed.
If you want to continue working on your kitchen design yourself, you can create a copy of the locked design and save it under a new name. This way, you can make any changes you like in the copied version.
Why is my kitchen design in the METOD planning tool locked?
Your kitchen design will be locked once your IKEA kitchen has been ordered. It may also be locked if an IKEA co‑worker is currently working on it. However, you can create a copy of your kitchen design and continue designing using the copied version.
Here’s how to proceed:
- Navigate to the start page of the METOD planning tool.
- Scroll down to your locked design, click the three dots, and select “Copy”.
- Name your new drawing.
- Save the copied design. This copy is now unlocked and can be edited.

To view the kitchen designs you’ve created, or those created during a kitchen planning appointment, you’ll need to sign in to your IKEA account and open the METOD planning tool. Once you’re there, you’ll see an overview of all your saved designs.
