How do I troubleshoot my IKEA Home smart system?

Sometimes a smart product appears in the app but doesn't connect properly to your IKEA Home smart system. Then it might help to go through a few simple steps to check your system and improve connectivity.

Troubleshoot your home system
Sometimes a smart product appears in the app but still doesn't connect properly to your IKEA Home smart system. Follow the steps below to check your system and try again.
Check your Wi-Fi connection
Smart products need a stable Wi-Fi connection to communicate with the DIRIGERA hub. Make sure that your mobile phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the DIRIGERA hub.

Restart your system
To give your entire smart home a restart, you can restart the equipment in the following order:
  1. Restart your Wi-Fi router: Unplug the power cable for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  2. Restart your DIRIGERA hub: Unplug the power cable and plug it back in to restart the hub.
  3. Restart your mobile phone: It helps the phone clear temporary data and start from scratch.

Before you try to reconnect a product
We recommend that you factory reset the product before trying to connect it again. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the "Advice and instructions" for each product. A factory reset ensures that both your IKEA Home smart system and the product are in the best condition for a new connection.
General advice on connection
If you're still having trouble connecting a smart product, we recommend that you look at other factors or settings that may affect the connection in your home.

Disconnect other Thread boundary routers (temporarily)
In homes with multiple systems and brands, you may need to disconnect their devices temporarily to establish a stable connection.
Follow the steps to connect:
  1. Remove the power cable to other thread boundary routers in your home. For example, it could be a Google Nest Hub (2nd generation), Apple TV (2nd generation and later), or similar devices.
  2. Try to pair your smart product. Use the IKEA Home smart app to pair the product.
  3. Reconnect the power cable to your thread boundary routers. This allows the Thread network to be rebuilt.
Set your Wi-Fi router to IPv6
IPv6 enables your smart products to communicate with the rest of your home system in a simple and secure way. Most routers are set to IPv6 by default, but you can check this in your router settings.

Set your mobile Wi-Fi network to 2.4 GHz
A 2.4 GHz network provides better range, making it easier to reach smart products in hard-to-reach places. To set your mobile phone to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and select a 2.4 GHz network if available.

If products go offline
Smart products need to be connected to the hub and home system. If the connection is interrupted, the product will appear offline in the IKEA Home smart app.
  • Check the power source: The most common reason for a product to go offline is a lack of power.
  • For smart lights and similar products, make sure the power switch is turned on. For battery-powered devices, the IKEA Home smart app notifies you when the battery is low.
