What kitchen items can I use in the microwave?

In a microwave, you can use any items that is approved for microwave use. However, there are a few things you should avoid heating in the microwave. Always read your microwave oven’s manual before first use.

You can use any kitchen items marked as microwave-safe, typically heat-resistant glass, ceramic, and plastic containers approved for heating. Always check the product’s marking before use.
Avoid placing the following items in the microwave:
  • Plastic containers that are not approved for microwave use (they may melt or release chemicals)
  • Metal (lids, cutlery, travel mugs)
  • Unpeeled eggs (they can crack or explode)
  • Aluminum foil or items lined with aluminum (can cause sparks and flashes)
  • Porcelain and ceramics with gold or silver trim
