Is it normal for foam mattresses to yellow over time?

Foam mattresses or the foam core inside mattress toppers and seat cushions will naturally yellow when exposed to oxygen. This oxidation process is completely normal.

Since it is natural for the color of a foam mattress or seat cushion to change over time, this is not considered a defect and therefore cannot be claimed under warranty. This also applies to mattresses made with memory foam.
A yellowed mattress is neither dangerous nor toxic - it is simply the result of normal use and exposure to oxygen and UV light.
Even though yellowing is entirely normal, it can still be a good idea to use a mattress protector. It helps maintain the mattress in the best possible condition and is therefore a very worthwhile investment!
