We want to have a positive impact on the planet. That is why by 2030, we want all materials in our products to be recycled or renewable, and sourced in responsible ways.By using a fast-growing, renewable material like bamboo in this product, we avoid using fossil or finite materials.
Bamboo is stronger and more flexible than most wood, as it has longer fibres. It can grow up to one metre per day and produces twice as much oxygen compared to other wood species. The bamboo that IKEA uses is ready for harvest after 4-6 years. Bamboo is a grass, not a tree, and does not need replanting. It not only grows like grass, but spreads like grass.
“A sense of home, more than a sense of office. That was my starting point when I began designing LILLÅSEN desk. The idea is to inspire a creative space anywhere at home, rather than decorating a home office. Angled legs set the design apart from traditional desks. And because most of us just need a small laptop to perform our jobs, I also made LILLÅSEN a little bit smaller than a regular desk. Easy to fit in at home – and to feel comfortable at.”
