What is IKEA's exchange and return policy?

It's OK to change your mind! Therefore, you have the right to exchange and return all unused IKEA products that are still in our range. Products that are no longer in the range can be returned for up to one year after purchase.

You can return or exchange unused products purchased both in IKEA's Norwegian and foreign stores and online store. You can also return a product even if it has been opened or assembled. IKEA does not require the original packaging. If you want to exchange an item, you must first return it and then make a new purchase.
The item must not have been used and must not show visible signs of damage, stains, paint or marks. After an assessment has been carried out, and IKEA can reasonably determine that the product has been returned in a condition that allows it to be resold, an amount equivalent to the purchase price will be refunded.
For returns and exchanges of assembled products and made-to-measure worktops and wall panels, you will receive a refund of 50% of the product price to use towards another purchase.

You must also not make any changes to the product. Any modifications you make – such as drilling holes, painting or removing parts during use – will void the guarantee, as the product no longer functions as intended and its structural integrity may be compromised. If you return a defective item (that does not require a major repair) and the damage was not caused by you, IKEA will either repair the item (at no cost to you), send spare parts, or offer you a refund.
If the item requires a “major” repair, you can, in accordance with Norwegian consumer law, choose one of the following options:
  • Repair (at no cost to you)
  • Replacement of the item
  • Refund of the item
It is IKEA's Exchange and Return Policy for full terms and conditions of returns.
