The IKEA Sustainability Strategy
IKEA Angpow Pouch
The angpow pouch is an initiative made possible from the parnership between IKEA Malaysia and Kloth Woman Up. In line with the practices of responsible consumption and production, these angpow pouches were made by repurposing IKEA Malaysia's pristine but unused curtain rolls.
The designs on the curtain rolls were carefully selected and are beautifully themed with the Chinese New Year season. They were then brought to an ISO-certified textile recycling factory based in Port Klang for sorting and cutting according to the required size. The angpow pouches were then sewn by more than 10 Kloth Woman Up ladies from the B40 community as a means to support their livelihood. Each pouch is produced with attention to detail and is paired with a matching coloured tassle.
The angpow pouch can be reused in more ways than one, and it is hoped that it will carry tokens of well wishes for auspicious occasions until the end of its useful life.
A zero-waste mindset
At IKEA, we hate wasting resources and are always looking for ways to make more from less. This applies to raw materials, energy and space. And we also know that waste can be a valuable resource. After all, waste is no longer waste if it’s given a second life. We are working with Kloth Care to repurpose our old uniforms and give them a second life.
