CSR Policy (IKEA India Private Limited)

Corporate social responsbility of IKEA India 

1. Purpose - The key purpose of this policy is to:

  • Define what CSR means to us and the approach adopted to achieve our goals.
  • Define the kind of projects that will come under the ambit of CSR. 
  • Identify broad areas of intervention in which the company will undertake projects.
  •  Serve as a guiding document to help execute and monitor CSR projects. 


2. Company philosophy 

IKEA India Private Limited (“IKEA”/”Company”) believes that it is imperative for an organization to give back a humble part of what it takes from the society. We continuously strive to be an entity that is socially committed by bringing together all our existing processes under the ambit of Corporate Social Responsibility through proactive initiatives.

IKEA’s involvement in various activities will contribute to the Company having a positive impact on people and planet in the local communities where we operate, co-workers feeling proud of the Company as an employer and help position IKEA as a responsible company. 

This Policy sets the principles and responsibilities for the successful implementation of the community involvement activities across all locations where IKEA operates and covers community involvement activities done / to be done by IKEA in India. 

3. Definitions

a)   Community involvement means contributions to activities for either environmental or social good causes in the local or national communities. These contributions can be in the form of; 

  • in-kind donations (of products, gift vouchers or other material),  
  • monetary donations,
  •  sharing of know-how and competence,  
  • allowing the use of Company premises or 
  •  donating Company co-workers paid time or providing equipment.

b) Charity is another possible word for community involvement. At IKEA, we prefer to talk about community involvement. 

4. Scope of CSR activities

As a practice, we classify only those projects that are over and above our normal course of business as CSR. This policy applies to all our CSR projects and it will be further reviewed and updated regularly.
Our CSR policy contributes to Company’s goals by adopting projects in the following areas of intervention defined in Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013, as may be amended from time to time: 

  • Promotion of education;         
  • Promoting gender equality and empowering women;       
  • Ensuring environmental sustainability;      
  • Employment enhancing vocational skills;        
  • Social business projects; 
  • Contribution to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund or any other fund set up by the Central Government or the State Governments for socio-economic development and relief and funds for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, other backward classes, minorities and women;
  • (Eradicating hunger, poverty and malnutrition, promoting health care including preventive health care and sanitation including contribution to the Swach Bharat Kosh set-up by the Central Government for the promotion of sanitation and making available safe drinking water; 
  • Promoting education, including special education and employment enhancing vocation skills especially among children, women, elderly and the differently abled and livelihood enhancement projects;
  • Promoting gender equality, empowering women, setting up homes and hostels for women and orphans; setting up old age homes, day care centres and such other facilities for senior citizens and measures for reducing inequalities faced by socially and economically backward groups;
  • Ensuring environmental sustainability, ecological balance, protection of flora and fauna, animal welfare, agroforestry, conservation of natural resources and maintaining quality of soil, air and water;
  • Protection of national heritage, art and culture including restoration of buildings and sites of historical importance and works of art; setting up public libraries; promotion and development of traditional art and handicrafts; 
  • Rural development projects;
  • Slum area development
    Explanation- For the purposes of this item, the term `slum area' shall mean any area declared as such by the Central Government or any State Government or any other competent authority under any law for the time being in force. 
  • Disaster management, including relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities; and 
  • Such other matters as may be prescribed. 

 

5. Principles and Explanations

IKEA’s community involvement activities should fulfil the following principles:

a)     When starting a new or renewing an existing community involvement activity: 

  •  Activities must never be perceived as religious or discriminatory in nature or as endorsing party politics. Activities are strictly philanthropic and done without cause of bribery or corruption (in line with the Ingka Group Policy on Business Ethics). 
  • All donations must be done in a transparent manner and communicated to relevant stakeholders. 
  • As far as possible, community involvement activities (i.e. product donations, monetary and time) should remain in India.  
  • All activities should have a clear, ideally measurable, positive impact on people and/or planet, be communicable and involve co-workers.  
  • Donation of products should be from the more sustainable life at home range or from the sustainability symbolic products list. 

b)     Further IKEA should adhere to the guidance found in the “Ingka Group Rule on Community Involvement” specific to each company.

6. Requirement Structures:

Each community involvement activity shall have well defined deliverables; a well-defined end-point and exit, and it must follow the strategy established nationally/ within the business unit. Donations should benefit a specific activity rather than contributing to administrative costs of the receiving organisation.  

Based on the profits earned during any financial year, IKEA shall set aside a certain amount annually, for contributions to community involvement activities in the local / national community. 

7.  Goverance Structures:

At IKEA, the Board of Directors shall be entrusted with the responsibility of the CSR projects undertaken.  

8. Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, update and periodically review the CSR Policy
  • Approve projects that are in line with the CSR policy as and when required to be implemented by the Company. 
  • Put monitoring mechanisms in place to track the progress of each project
  • Review and approve the CSR expenditure  
  • To oversee the implementation of our CSR Policy, in compliance with the requirements of Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013.

9.   CSR Budget:

The total budget for the CSR projects will be decided by the Board of Directors.

The Company will commit all the necessary resources required to meet the goals of Corporate Sustainability/Corporate Social Responsibility as and when required.

 In line with the above social responsibility and commitment towards the community as a whole, the Company shall contribute in activities as outlined in Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013.
