Café Plume – A 55m2 café in the heart of the city

Aurelie opened Café Plume during the pandemic and was only offering pickup and delivery in her French bakery. In April, when Bangaloreans started going outside again and were carving for a peaceful place to have a coffee break, meet some friends and enjoy some sweet delicacies, Aurelie decided to open her café for dine-in. She had in mind a place where life would slow down and one could escape the city crowd, enjoying their time in solace with a book to read and some delicious treats.

She reached out to our Interior Design Service asking for help with the layout and choice of furniture. Her goal was to mix IKEA furniture with the existing pieces that she already had. It was important to create a cosy atmosphere with a light pink and dark green color tone. She wanted seating for 15 including the outside area, some lighting and crockery to complete what she already had.

Growing up in France, we always had IKEA products at our home. It was evidence for me to get IKEA products for my café. Simple, good quality and nice design, it gives a modern and cozy touch to our little French café. If we expand one day, we can easily find the same product to replicate our design. Even in Europe!

This stone worktop that she had was a pre-requisite to use for the café table. To minimize the cost and waiting time from a local welder, Aurelie decided to used our star legs from our professional dining range and get her table customised. Customers feel that they are convenient as you can hang your bag on the hook provided on the leg itself.

We decided to use ODGER chair in a darker color tone to contrast with the beige flooring. They are made using a wood plastic composite which gives this dark matte finishing and texture, ensuring a nice contrast with the glossy finish of the café tabletop. The curve of the back seat gives extra comfort that allows you to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Reading is the second passion of Aurelie. Arts and books are the heart of this place. You can pick a French or English novel, or a baking book, have your favorite treat and coffee on the side and forget about your busy life for a moment. This reading corner with a comfortable armchair has become her favorite place in the café.

The place was missing a cosy light, something that would help you feel at home and give some character to the place. This pendant light has a touch of brass and a warm light coming from the grey clear glass, which gave the perfect finish to the place and took the vibe to another level.

The outdoor space is limited, and we needed to keep a large access to the café entrance. We decided to use this light grey table together with the light pink bench that she had, to build a pastel coordination and keep this soft and relaxing feeling. This outdoor table is foldable so it is easy to empty the terrace during rainy season.

As the café was initially only for delivery, they needed to add crockery such as glasses, spoons, water bottles and, of course, a French coffee press. Plates and coffee cups were ordered from a potter in Bangalore and to coordinate with it, we used a textured glass which gave this fresh and summer feeling.

Tea spoons were required in big numbers. Hence, we used our tea spoon set, so that any time in the future she needed to order a few more, she could only get the spoons. We kept cups, glasses and coffee press on the shelves for easy access. This French press from our range is convenient, easy to clean and can be used  for ground coffee beans or tea leaves.
