Take it outside: balcony living

If you’re lucky enough to have a balcony, we want to help you make the most of it. It’s more than just a spot to catch some sun; it’s a whole outdoor room, where you can live as much of your life as you want to.

When the weather’s perfect, pretty much everything happens outdoors. From eating, to working, to drawing with the kids. A nice, big table gives you a place to take all of your indoor activities out into the fresh air. So pull up a chair, gather the family, and have a mid-day snack. Or as we call it in Sweden, fika.

Indoors, outdoors, wherever you are, a chill-out zone is an absolute must. Benches provide lots of extra seating, and cushions can turn that bench into a day bed. Perfect for a snooze or just a place to stretch out. Need more pillows and blankets? Keep them in a box under the bench.

I find that you can get the most out of your balcony when you create distinct areas for different activities. It mimics the feeling of your indoor home.

Our tip

Looking for a bit of zen? All you need is a chair to lounge in, an umbrella to stay cool, and a whole lot of greenery.

You know what’s better than eating al fresco? Cooking al fresco. Designate a kitchen area, take it all outside, and get to work prepping and grilling. Trust us, it’s super relaxing, and you won’t have to miss out on socialising while everyone else is hanging out on the balcony without you.

We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
