Småland (Kid’s play area)

We like to make visiting IKEA both fun for kids and easier for grown-ups.

Småland is our free supervised play area, located near the entrance of our stores. IKEA Småland co-workers will take care of your children for free for 45 minutes while you can enjoy shopping in-store.

How does Småland work?

  • Visit Småland in-store. If your child is 3 feet (94cm) – 4.5 feet (137cm) in height (The height measuring scale is displayed on the Småland wall), you can sign in your child for a session at Småland located near the entrance of our stores. If there is an estimated waiting time, you will be informed of this at registration.
  • Fill out the registration form for your child at one of our Kiosks. All parents or guardians can sign in a child, but they must be over the age of 18. 
  • Wait for your child’s turn to play at Småland. You will receive an SMS to notify you the same.
  • Enjoy shopping for 45 minutes around our store while your child does arts and crafts, reads books or plays with lots of imaginative and interactive toys including a ball pool.
  • Pick up your child. You will receive a notification when it is almost time to pick up your child(ren). Please note, the person who signed in the child must be the person to collect the child.

Småland rules & Regulations

  • This is a controlled-access play area. IKEA co-workers oversee the admittance, supervision, and departure of children.
  • For your child’s safety, the same person who signs the child in must sign the child out.
  • Our play area is a service for IKEA visitors, you must remain in the IKEA store while your child is in the play area.
  • IKEA assumes no responsibility for loss of personal items or injury. Parents/Guardians leave their children to play at their own risk.
  • Children must be toilet trained (no diapers/pull-ups). Please take your child to washroom prior to entering the play area.
  • Height requirements: All children must be 94cm – 137cm in height.
  • All children must leave their boots/shoes and coats at the sign-in desk.     
  • There is a 45-minute play time limit. This time may change without notice, in which case parents/guardians will be noticed at sign-in.
  • In case of emergency evacuation, we will take your child(ren) to safety. You can pick them up at the IKEA kids assembly point.
  •  We will contact you if there is a problem. If contacted, parents/guardians must return to IKEA SMÅLAND immediately. NOTE: Failure to return within the specified time limit or when contacted will result in the police being contacted to collect you child (ren)

Frequently asked questions

We do not use personal devices to take photos or videos, an official camera is always used, and photos will be stored according to the consent forms.  To publish pictures and videos, we need specific written consent prior to the activity.

  1. What personal data do we collect?
    When you use our childcare service Småland, we collect personal data directly from you as a parent or guardian of the child. 

    The personal data we will collect from you includes your name, telephone number, Government ID number, address, your child’s name, age, height, and optionally any data that you may submit in the free text field. Please do not submit personal data to us if you do not want us to collect it.

  2. How do we use your personal data and what are our legal justifications for doing so?
    We use your personal data to provide you with the Småland childcare service and to communicate with you about this service.

    When you check in your child at Småland, you enter into an agreement with us regarding childcare services. It is necessary for us to process the personal data of you and your child in order to provide this service (e.g., to identify you and your child and to contact you regarding your child), and thus the legal basis for the processing is our contract. 
  3. Who do we share your personal data with?
    We will only use your personal data for the provision of the Småland childcare service and your personal data will never be shared or sold to a third party for any other unrelated purpose. However, there may be situations where we have legal obligation or in case of a medical emergency to ensure best possible treatment for the child in the absence of the parent to share or disclose your personal data. This could be with law enforcement agencies or public authorities to prevent or detect crime or fulfil a legal requirement.

    Group companies
    The Småland platform is operated by IKEA IT AB which is another company in Ingka Group. The servers are hosted by an external service provider and are in Europe, Asia and North America depending on where the services are provided. We may also share aggregated data with other companies in Ingka Group. We will do this to measure our childcare services and to improve and provide the best childcare services we can.

  4. Your rights
    You can always access your profile in our online tool, and you have the right to change or update the information at any time.   5. Security and retention of your personal data
    We take the security of your personal data very seriously. We have implemented various strategies, controls, policies and measures to keep your data secure and keep these measures under close review. This means that your data is protected and only accessible by co-workers who need to carry out their job responsibilities. We also ensure that there are strict physical controls in our buildings restricting access to your personal data. The device used in the Småland facility does not store any personal data.
  6. Retention of your personal data
    In broad terms, we will only retain your personal data for as long as is necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy notice. This means that the retention periods will vary according to the type of the data and the reason that we have the data in the first place. If you are not registered with us, your transaction data will be stores for a period of 2 years 24 hours]after you have checked out your child from Småland. However, you can choose to store your profile in our system to enable easier use of the Småland childcare services at a later point. If you choose to save your profile data in our system, your data will be stored for a period of 7 years. Child data is not stored for more than 24 hours in any case.
