What does an IKEA kitchen planning appointment look like?

This guide explains the chronological steps of your in-store kitchen planning journey, from initial thoughts to the final plan.

1.      Before you book: To get the most out of your appointment, we recommend you prepare first. Get inspired by browsing our kitchen styles online, and most importantly, measure your kitchen space. Accurate measurements are the critical first step to a successful plan. We support you in making this process easy through our kitchen measurement video instructions. You should also consider your needs, listing your kitchen dreams and any current challenges, to discuss with the specialist.
2.      Booking your appointment: Once you are prepared, you can book your appointment online via the IKEA Kitchen Planning Service page.
3.      Receive confirmation of your appointment: You will receive a confirmation of your selected appointment by e-mail with further instructions on how to prepare for your appointment. The instructions will be different depending on where and when the appointment will take place.
4.      Rescheduling or cancelling: We understand plans can change. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please try to do so at least 24 hours in advance by using the reschedule or cancel button you can find in the email confirmation. If you are not able to find this button in the email, you can reschedule or cancel the appointment by contacting us. If you prefer, you can also switch your in-store booking to a virtual online session by informing the specialist who contacts you before your appointment.
5.      Preparing for your appointment: Please bring your kitchen measurements, any inspirational ideas or images you've collected, and your list of kitchen dreams and challenges. If you have already started a design in the IKEA kitchen planner, have your plan number or login details ready so that we can access it quickly and easily.
6.      During your appointment: An IKEA kitchen specialist will:
a. Review your measurements and discuss your needs to ensure the plan is functional.
b. Work with you to create or refine your kitchen design using the IKEA Kitchen Planner.
c. Help you select products, including appliances and custom-made worktops, that fit your style and budget.
Please note that we will not advise on structural changes to your space, such as the removal of walls or moving plumbing, gas, and electrical connections. We recommend discussing these changes with an expert.
7.                  The outcome of your appointment: By the end of your session, you will receive a complete plan package. This includes a 3D design of your new kitchen, a full product list, a kitchen quotation, and an estimate for our delivery and installation service. Your plan will be saved to your IKEA account, so you can access it anytime. When you are ready, we can also help you place the order straight away, but we are also happy to give you some time to reflect on your purchase and plan a follow-up appointment for placing the order at a later time.
