Kitchen styles to meet your needs, budget and taste

There are numerous kitchen ideas to choose from and it can be an overwhelming decision to select a kitchen style that's right for your home. A new kitchen is an investment, so that style also needs to stand the test of time.

Consider when choosing a style for your kitchen:

• The style and architecture of your home. Sometimes it is as easy as a modern kitchen in a newer build home and a traditional kitchen in an older traditional home. This doesn't mean you can't mix things up by putting a modern kitchen in a historic home, but this should be a conscious design decision for the best results.

• The existing interior design style in your home. How have decorated the rest of your home? What is the style of the rest of your home furnishings? You want your dream kitchen to complement what is already there, because you want a space that feels part of your home.

• Who the kitchen is being designed for. It’s really about making a kitchen your own, both functionally and aesthetically. Is there someone in your home who loves to cook? How often will this kitchen be used and by how many people? It is also a good idea to decide whether this is your forever home or are you renovating to sell. This will determine your budget and may affect your cabinet, flooring, colour, finish, and appliances choices too.
