What happens to furniture items with no buyer at the Buyback service?

Learn how IKEA handles used furniture items if no new buyer can be found.

Furniture items are inspected and then offered for resale in the Second-chance area.
The goal is to give as many furniture items as possible a new home and a second chance.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE BUYBACK?

After you return your furniture item:
✓ it is inspected again
✓ labelled as “Second-chance”
✓ offered for resale in the Second-chance market
This shows that the furniture item arrived through the Buyback service.

WHAT HAPPENS IF NO BUYER IS FOUND?

If no buyer can be found after inspection and resale attempts, IKEA takes care of the appropriate recycling and material recovery. The materials are disposed of or recycled in the best possible way.
