Why are sofas and mattresses not accepted through IKEA Second Life?

Learn why sofas, upholstered furniture and mattresses are excluded from the IKEA Second Life service.

For hygiene reasons, sofas, upholstered furniture and mattresses cannot be accepted through the IKEA Second Life service.

These products cannot be resold.

WHY ARE THESE PRODUCTS EXCLUDED?

With used sofas, upholstered furniture and mattresses, hygiene and wear conditions cannot always be fully inspected or restored.

For this reason, the following products are excluded from buy-back:

✗ sofas
✗ upholstered furniture
✗ mattresses

If you buy a new sofa or mattress at IKEA, you can use the IKEA Recycling & Disposal Service.

✓ professional disposal
✓ support when replacing old furniture
✓ more sustainable recycling of materials

Other suitable furniture items can still be evaluated and returned through IKEA Second Life.

These restrictions are in place to support hygiene and product safety.
