For this recipe, you will need:

  • 3 tbsp IKEA rapeseed oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 1-2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcester sauce  
  • 1kg IKEA meatballs
  • 300g frozen peas  
  • 500ml beef stock (or more)
  • Salt & pepper  
  • 1.2kg IKEA mashed potatoes  
  • 100g butter
  • fresh chopped parsley (optional) 

To make a delicious Cottage Pie, start by preheating your oven to 200°C.

Step 1

In a pan, heat the oil on medium heat. 

Step 2

Fry the onions until they have a slight golden colour

Step 3

Add the carrots and cook for a minute.


Step 4

Add the tomato paste and fry, about 1 minute. 

Step 5

Add the meatballs with the carrots and onions. 

Step 6

Break the meatballs up until it looks like mince. Cook until brown. 


Step 7

Add the peas and cook, about 1 minute. 

Step 8

Add the Worcester sauce. 

Step 9

Add the beef stock. Simmer over medium heat for a few minutes until the flavours have come together. 


Step 10

In the meantime, reheat the mashed potatoes with melted butter over medium heat. Stir occasionally to avoid the bottom from burning. 

Step 11

Start assembling the dish. Add the meat to the bottom of an ovenproof dish.  

Step 12

Add the mashed potatoes layer and spread evenly. Top with a little melted butter. Bake for 5 minutes and then broil for 2 minutes on the highest rack to brown the top.

Sprinkle some chopped parsley before serving, enjoy!
