[Seoul – July 25, 2018] Home furnishing retailer IKEA Korea held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 25 at the site of IKEA Giheung store in Gomae-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, Korea. Over 100 people including IKEA Korea co-workers and Yongin city officials were in attendance, including Mayor of Yongin City Kunki Back, IKEA Korea Country Retail Manager André Schmidtgall and IKEA Giheung Store Manager Anje Heim.

IKEA Giheung will be the third IKEA store to open in Korea, following the opening of IKEA Gwangmyeong and Goyang. The future 91,000m2 IKEA Giheung will be comprised of 2 underground floors and 3 floors above ground including parking space. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019. Through IKEA Giheung, IKEA Korea expects to enhance accessibility to residents in the nearby area of Yongin, create nearly 500 meaningful jobs and further expand the home furnishing market, thereby contributing to the growth of the local economy.

André Schmidtgall, IKEA Korea Country Retail Manager, said, “We are pleased to bring the IKEA shopping experience closer to our customers in the southern Seoul and Gyeonggi area,” adding, “As a multichannel retailer, IKEA Korea will continuously expand our touchpoints and improve convenience for our customers, enabling more of the many people to meet IKEA’s unique home furnishing experience whenever, wherever and however they want.”

Anje Heim, IKEA Giheung Store Manager, said “We look forward to introducing our customers at IKEA Giheung to the best home furnishing ideas and solutions for their individual living situations and needs. Meanwhile, IKEA Korea is continuing its efforts to widen its customer touchpoints for better accessibility and provide a convenient experience under the IKEA vision “to create a better everyday life for the many people”.
