The OMTÄNKSAM collection, combining beauty with ergonomic principles to help individuals
OMTÄNKSAM provides comfort, function and safety in all areas of the home, especially to those facing challenges due to disabilities or changing physical conditions. Meaning the word ‘considerate’ in Swedish, OMTÄNKSAM helps people overcome obstacles in everyday life and enjoy a happy and independent life by adding extra comfort and ergonomic functionality. The range has been developed in collaboration with ergonomists, physiotherapists and researchers, applying statistical data of body measurements in different populations to product design and functionality.
The new collection features 22 products ranging from furniture such as tables and armchairs to home furnishing accessories that are frequently used in everyday life. The user-friendly design in addition to practical function provides extra comfort not only for the elderly but also for those experiencing physical difficulties. OMTÄNKSAM includes an armchair with a high back lumbar support and adjustable neck pillow(KRW 299,000) which ensures good posture even when being seated for a long time, and a slanted footstool(KRW 99,900) that helps blood circulation for your legs. Glass cup(KRW 7,900/4pcs) and vase(KRW 12,900/KRW 19,900) provides convenience and safety with easy-to-lift design. A long shoehorn using durable metal(KRW 4,900) also makes putting shoes on easier than ever before.
”The OMTÄNKSAM collection was developed based on the finding that 15% of the world’s population live with some form of disability, as well as the needs we face in today’s rapidly aging society,” said Britt Monti, Creative Leader at IKEA. “Starting with this launch, we look forward to expanding the collection with smart design and practical functions to bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens to enable the many people live a comfortable, independent life at home.
OMTÄNKSAM will be available for purchase at all IKEA stores in Korea (Gwangmyeong, Goyang, Giheung and DongBusan) and the IKEA Korea website from May 1.
