IKEA Korea hosts ‘Midsommar Party’ for residents of Goyang prior to new store opening
‘Midsommar’, a Swedish festivity during the summer solstice, is a tradition that celebrates the longest day of the year. The Swedes celebrate the day by enjoying traditional foods, music and dancing with family, friends and neighbors. The ‘Midsommar Party’ will be the first time for IKEA Korea to share with the local residents of Goyang the Swedish heritage and culture - the roots of IKEA - before the opening of IKEA Goyang in October.
Under the belief that children are the most important people in the world, IKEA Korea will invite 120 local children to the ‘Midsommar Party’ to enjoy various Swedish-themed activities with IKEA Korea co-workers on June 23, from 11am to 2pm. The event will be open to public from 3pm to 8pm on June 23, and from 11am to 8pm on June 24.
Activities at the ‘Midsommar Party’ will include making flower bouquets and wreaths, Dala horse coloring, and the Swedish fishing game ‘Fiskdamm’. Also, children and their families can take photos at a photo wall decorated with paintings of Swedish traditional costumes. There will also be a chance for everyone to dance around the Midsommar pole with IKEA’s co-workers to music by popular Swedish musicians like ABBA. Small gifts will be given to IKEA FAMILY members visiting the Midsommar party, or new members that sign up for free at the event.
“This event is a chance for us to celebrate one of Sweden's major holidays Midsommar, and share the Swedish traditions and culture with the residents of Goyang where we will soon meet them as a new neighbour," said Cecilia Johansson, IKEA Goyang store manager. "We will also continue to actively communicate with the local residents and make our best efforts to become a good neighbor,” she added.
Based on the vision ‘to create a better everyday life for the many people’, IKEA Korea continues to deliver the message “Happiness starts at home”, where families spend time together. It offers a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that many people will be able to afford them.
