Product with value under the Democratic Design philosophy

[Seoul – April 11] IKEA announced today that the company’s LISABO table series has been recognised for its product design in one of the world’s largest design competitions, the Red Dot Design Awards.

LISABO is a collection of tables that rewrites the rules of space, as well as design, sustainability and even time. The pieces, made of ash veneer, can easily be moved around the home, meeting many different needs.

The central design aspect of LISABO is a small, nearly invisible solution, called a wedge dowel that cuts down on assembly time by 80 per cent. Simply insert and lock the wedge dowel, which comes attached to the table legs, into a hole on the table top and it’s done.

“At IKEA, we're not just making things - we're using design to make things better. We work with what we call Democratic Design, where we make sure our products have great function, are beautifully designed and made to stand everyday life while being sustainable - all made accessible through low prices. These awards show us that we're on the right path. We’re happy that our colleagues in the design community appreciate our hard work to create products with lots of value.” stated Marcus Engman, Head of Design at IKEA.

IKEA LISABO table series is currently sold in IKEA Gwangmyeong store and will be showcased at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany.

Aside from IKEA LISABO Table series, IKEA SLADDA Bicycle has also received the Red Dot Award and the product will be available in IKEA Gwangmyeong in August.

Meanwhile, the last IKEA product to receive a Red Dot was the IKEA PS 2014 Pendant lamp, designed by David Wahl, which received an Honourable Mention in 2015.
