IKEA to open Swedish Restaurant at IKEA Shibuya on April 21

—First restaurant in any IKEA City Shop in Japan—
To date, the traditional stores in IKEA Japan have been operating restaurants that offer Swedish food at affordable prices for enhanced shopping experiences. Now, for the very first time, an IKEA City Shop in Japan is to open a new eating spot at IKEA Shibuya, with the possibilities for customers to experience the Swedish cuisine while enjoying the convenience of shopping in central Tokyo.
The Swedish restaurant, located on the seventh floor of IKEA Shibuya, will serve traditional Swedish dishes as well as various items exclusive to this city shop. To support the commitment to sustainable living, the menu at IKEA Shibuya will include healthy, sustainable choices, including plant-based items such as plant balls (meatless “meatballs”) and apple soft ice cream.
The new restaurant will also feature a number of salmon dishes. Salmon, an indispensable part of Swedish food culture, is a healthful choice rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids. IKEA serves sustainable Norwegian Atlantic salmon certified under the international Aquaculture Stewardship (ASC) standard as responsibly farmed seafood. The restaurant will offer both traditional Swedish salmon dishes and exclusive items such as salmon poke and fillet salmon meals that customers of all ages are sure to enjoy.
Helene von Reis, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA Japan, said, “We are excited to be opening our new Swedish restaurant on the top floor of IKEA Shibuya. Customers are invited to explore delicious Swedish flavors made with sustainable seafood and plant-based recipes.
We hope to become a popular eating spot in Shibuya for everyone from children to seniors, including singles and families alike. IKEA Shibuya looks forward to serving you!”
Kiyoshi Sagawa, Country Food Manager of IKEA Japan, said, “The Swedish restaurant at IKEA Shibuya extends a warm welcome to everyone! Just like at our ‘blue-box’ stores, please drop by to enjoy some delicious and sustainable Swedish food, including soft ice for only 50 yen. Whether before, during or after shopping, we invite you to make your visit extra fun by coming up to the seventh floor at IKEA Shibuya with friends or family for a unique dining experience!”
For the safety of all customers, the Swedish restaurant will operate in strict compliance with all COVID-19 guidelines of the government.
