What is the process for the Kitchen and Kitchen Storage Installation Service?
Creating a new kitchen is an exciting project. Knowing the flow from start to finish helps to make it as smooth as possible. Here, we explain the six steps of the kitchen installation service, what IKEA does, and what we ask you to prepare. The process for the kitchen storage installation service is almost the same, just without the utility work for gas and water.
1. Before Booking — Preparing for Success
- Measurement and Planning
The starting point for a successful installation is an accurate plan. To save time and cost, we recommend that you first measure your kitchen yourself. If you are not used to measuring a kitchen, please see the "Kitchen Planning Guide" in Handbook and buying guide (Only Japanese available). If you find it difficult to measure yourself, you can also consider using our professional Kitchen Measurement Service. Once the measurements are done, you will have a Kitchen Planning session with a kitchen specialist to create your ideal kitchen plan together and discuss the kitchen installation service in detail. - Preparing the installation space
To allow our installers to work smoothly, you need to prepare the room before the installation. Please complete the following work by the installation start date:
- Work related to the structure and interior (walls, windows, doors, ceiling, floor, etc.)
- Final adjustments to the wiring, plumbing, and connection positions for electricity, water, and gas.
If you have an existing kitchen and do not use the "Kitchen Removal Service" (an option not included in the kitchen installation service), you will need to remove the old kitchen in advance. - Obtaining the necessary permits
If building confirmations or various permits are required, it is your responsibility to obtain them. - Considering additional services
If you need support for other processes, such as the Kitchen Removal Service, please consider the additional services that can be booked along with the kitchen installation service.
2. On-site confirmation of the kitchen installation location (pre-installation visit, mandatory) Optional for kitchen storage
- What the installer will do during the visit:
- Confirmation and verification:
They will check the dimensions and condition of the room against the kitchen plan you have approved. - Confirmation of additional work:
If any work outside the scope of the service is required (e.g., minor plumbing adjustments, electrical work, removal of the existing kitchen), they will inform you. In some cases, they may be able to provide a separate estimate for this additional work (a separate contract between you and the installer), but you are not obliged to hire that installer. You can decide who to hire. In any case, please arrange for any additional work to be completed well in advance so that it is finished before the kitchen installation begins. - Final adjustments to the plan:
They will confirm the flow of the installation schedule and make minor adjustments to the plan as needed. - What we ask of you (during the pre-installation visit):
We ask that you are present during the pre-installation visit. Please discuss the installation details and any questions you may have directly with the installer.
3. Booking and managing the installation service
- Booking the installation service
The Kitchen Installation Service and Kitchen Storage Installation Service can only be booked during a Kitchen Planning session with a kitchen specialist. Please book this through our website. The specialist will create a quotation including the installation service based on the final plan and assist you with booking the installation. We will plan for the installation to start as soon as possible after the delivery of your kitchen products. As the delivery and installation companies are different, please schedule the delivery to be completed by the day before the installation. - Rescheduling/Cancellation
If your plans change, you can reschedule or cancel the installation by contacting the IKEA Customer Support Centre (050-4560-0494, open 10:00-18:00) at least 48 hours before the installation start date. Having your order number ready will make it easier to confirm the details. If you cancel within 48 hours of the start of the installation, or if you are not present on the day of the installation, a cancellation fee will be charged to cover the cost of the installer's time. Please note that you cannot change an order that includes an installation service from "Track & Manage Your Order". Please contact the Customer Support Centre as far in advance as possible to reschedule or cancel.
4. During the installation – when your kitchen takes shape
- Check the delivery contents:
After your kitchen products are delivered, please check that all boxes, worktops, and appliances are present and that there is no damage. If we cannot identify any shortages or damage before the installation begins, it may cause delays. If you find any missing items or damage, please contact the Customer Support Centre (050-4560-0494, open 10:00-18:00) as soon as possible. - Secure a storage area for the products:
Please store the delivered parts together in the kitchen installation area or an adjacent room where the installer can easily work.
- Removal of kitchen or storage (optional, not included in standard service):
If you have requested the removal of an existing kitchen, on the first day they will dismantle and remove the existing kitchen to prepare for the installation of the new kitchen or storage. - Installation:
They will perform all the work included in the service (assembling and installing cabinets, installing worktops, installing appliances, etc.). - Maintaining a clean work area:
They will work while keeping dust and noise to a minimum.
- Ensure a clear workspace:
Please ensure that there is a clear path and workspace for safe and smooth access to the installation area. If parts need to be cut or processed, please prepare a place outdoors where this work can be done. - Provide the necessary environment for the work:
Please ensure that power, lighting, and heating are available for the installation. - Protect your home:
Although the installers will work carefully, please take your own necessary precautions, such as moving fragile items and covering furniture and floors in adjacent areas.
5. After completion – finishing touches and the start of your new kitchen
- Final clean-up:
They will perform a basic clean-up, such as sweeping the installation area. - Waste disposal (optional, not included in standard service):
If you have requested waste collection, they will collect the packaging materials from the new kitchen.
- Final check and sign-off:
Please check the completed kitchen with the installer. If there are no issues, please sign the "Completion Certificate." If you have any concerns at this point, please be sure to note them on the document. Claims for damage or defects after completion may not be covered unless they are noted at this time, with the exception of "latent defects" under the IKEA product and service guarantee. - Keep your documents:
Please keep all documents and parts given to you during the installation, such as assembly instructions, user manuals, and spare parts, in a safe place. - Enjoy your new kitchen:
Enjoy every day in your new kitchen.
