L-shaped kitchens
Just like when you write the letter "L", one side is longer than the other side. Great in both a larger or smaller room, an l-shaped kitchen layout allow for easy access to appliances and cooking utensils. This deisgn allows multiple people to move easily in the kitchen without getting in each other's way.
Discover which other kitchen layout is best for you: linear, galley or with a kitchen island.
What is an L-shaped kitchen layout?
An L-shaped kitchen has two rows of cabinets perpendicular to one another. Creating a kitchen with two sides that meet at a 90-degree angle. Some of them include:
- Increased storage space. Because the corner of the L-shaped kitchen meets at an angle, there is significantly deeper storage space than in a conventional one wall kitchen. For instance, if you need to store larger pots and pans, you can easily put them away in this corner of the kitchen.
- Better workflow. An L-shaped kitchen naturally conforms to the golden triangle rule. The golden triangle is the idea that all kitchens should be set up with the following three key areas in order to be efficient: a food preparation area, a cooking/serving area and a washing up area. These centre around the fridge, the hob and the kitchen sink.
- More worktop space. Since the corner of where the L-shape meets is deeper, you will have more worktop space than in another type of kitchen.
L-shaped kitchen with island
An L-shaped kitchen with an island offers even more functionality. A kitchen island gives you extra prep space and a serving area, making it ideal for large families.
