We’ve outlined all the details of our generous return policy right here – and it applies equally to all customers and purchases, regardless of how or where you shop with us.

At IKEA, we understand that sometimes things don’t work out. Whether it's for your home, office, or garden, it’s OK to change your mind. Returning a product is simple, straightforward, and hassle-free.

Returning unopened IKEA products

You can return most* unopened IKEA products within 365 days for a full refund— no rush. While it’s ideal to have your proof of purchase, if you can’t find it, don’t worry, we can help you find your receipt.

Returning opened IKEA products

We think everyone should be able to test out any product, so we take back tested products within 365 days – even assembled ones. Just show us your receipt and we can refund tested items to a refund card.

IKEA products that can’t be returned​

We encourage you to test and try our products and return them if they don’t meet your needs. However, items that are considered used (such as those with modifications or cosmetic imperfections) are not eligible for return under our policy. But don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. Through our BuyBack offer, we’ll buy unwanted IKEA items from you so you can shop again.*

Things to note: IKEA returns, IKEA refunds and IKEA exchanges

  • When making a return, please bring your receipt or order number. If you cannot find your receipt or order reference, it may be located in your online profile or app. We will do our best to help you find your proof of purchase if you are unable to locate it, but returns may be refused, or issued to a refund card if you are not able to provide proof of purchase.
  • Where a proof of purchase is provided, we issue refunds back to the payment type used to make the purchase. If proof of purchase cannot be provided, returns may be refused or we may only be able to refund to a refund card.
  • We welcome customers to try, test and return items if they are not suitable. Items must be in good condition to be eligible for a refund under this policy. Items that have signs of use that goes beyond the means of testing the form and function of the item are not eligible to be returned under this policy. Items that have been opened, assembled or are not sellable at full retail value will only be refunded to a refund card. It is at IKEA’s sole discretion what is considered “tried and tested” and “used”.
  • Not eligible? You can still sell some used furniture back to us as part of our IKEA Buyback & Resell service. 
  • We offer a free IKEA spare parts service as part of our commitment to prolonging product life.

The IKEA ‘Sleep on itmattress exchange policy

‘Sleep on it’ is our IKEA 365-night trial scheme for newly purchased mattresses. ​

It takes time for you and your new mattress to get used to each other. That's why we give you 365 days to be sure you're compatible. So, after you’ve slept on it for a while, you can exchange your mattress if you find it too firm or too soft. When you've found your perfect match, you can sleep easy for years to come with our free 10-year guarantee.

How to exchange an IKEA mattress​

Simply bring your mattress and receipt to any IKEA store, and one of our sleep experts can help you find a different one. A collection fee of €25 will be charged if you need IKEA to collect your mattress. A delivery fee may also be applicable if you require your new mattress to be delivered.

Things to note: IKEA mattress exchange

  • You can exchange your mattress once within 365 days. 
  • The only condition is that it’s not dirty, marked or damaged. ​ ​ 
  • New mattresses often feel a bit too firm, so wait at least a month for your body to get used to the mattress and for the mattress to get used to your body.
  • To get the best comfort you also need the right pillow, make sure you have a pillow that suits you and your new mattress.
  • Once you’ve found your perfect mattress, it’ll be covered by our 10-year IKEA mattress guarantee. Terms and conditions for our guarantee can be found in our guarantee brochures. This return policy and our guarantee do not affect your statutory rights.
  • If your mattress exchange is an upgrade, you’ll just cover the price difference between the original and the replacement. ​
  • If the replacement’s price is lower, we’ll credit the difference to an IKEA Refund card for you to use towards a future purchase. ​
