How do I claim a VAT refund?
If you are purchasing goods from IKEA Ireland for export outside the EU, you may be entitled to a VAT refund if you are either a non-EU resident or registered for VAT in a country outside the EU, except Northern Ireland.
Retail Export Scheme (Tax-free shopping).
If you are a non-EU resident, excluding Northern Ireland, traveling outside the EU, and taking your purchased goods with you as on-board luggage, you must request a ‘Tax Free Worldwide' form from the store at the time of purchase and IKEA co-worker must sign the form.
The customer is responsible for completing the form and ensuring it is stamped by the Irish border authorities upon departure from the EU. Once stamped, the form must be placed in the provided envelope and returned to ‘Tax Free Worldwide' for the refund to be processed.
For more information, please refer to the VAT refund guidance Retail Export Scheme.
Goods shipped as a freight via a shipping agent.
If you are a non-EU resident, excluding Northern Ireland, traveling outside the EU, and exporting goods via a third-party shipping service, IKEA may refund the VAT charged, provided certain conditions are met.
One of the conditions requires the customer to arrange for the goods to be exported to a destination outside the EU within 3 months of the date of purchase.
To make a VAT Refund claim or if you have any questions relating to the repayment of VAT, please contact our VAT Refund team by email ( [email protected]) with the following details. For exports, then you must do this within 3 months of purchase.
- Order confirmation or receipt.
- Utility bill for the address outside of the EU.
- Certification of shipment.
- Your contact details, including phone number, full name and full address.
For more general information, please refer to the VAT guidance Value-Added Tax (VAT).
