Sofa beds

We love furniture that does double duty. Especially for homes big on cosy but small on space. With a variety of styles and options like pull-out beds, futons, and built-in storage, our sleeper sofas ensure that you can have the lounge area you deserve and the second bedroom you sometimes need. Sofa-beds that aren’t either or – but both

While some are ideal for occasional use, the ones that are folded out every night are true household heroes. That’s why we have models like GRÖNLID and VIMLE sofa-beds, offering the same level of comfort as you can expect from a bed. So you can sleep soundly, knowing that neither bed nor sofa is a compromise.

The easy way to transform a room

As if sofa-beds aren’t clever enough to begin with, IKEA also has them in styles, sizes, colours and comfort levels to let you repurpose a space at will – living room to bedroom, cosy corner to guest space, day to night.

The disappearing-bedding trick (watch the cushion)

You almost can’t have too many cushions – but if you have a FRIHETEN sofa-bed, there’s one in particular you don’t want to miss. KLAGSHAMN back cushion lets you swiftly zip your night-time mattress into cushy daytime comfort.

A sofa bed can do two, sometimes three jobs at once – never resting – while letting you or a house guest do exactly that. Versatile and practical, a sofa bed is a place to unwind and relax by day and a handy, space efficient sleeping spot come bedtime. For added functionality, some of our models also include built-in storage.

Here are some tips for choosing the right sofa bed for your home.

Size and space

It’s important to think about what size sofa bed you need and what will fit in your home, before choosing one.

A corner or a big 3-seater sofa bed is an ideal choice if you’ve got lots of relatives or a big group of friends staying over. Lack space in your home? You might want to look at a 2-seater or a small corner sofa bed instead. If your space is very limited, check out our selection of single sofa bed chairs and futons.

Measure for both sofa and bed

When you turn a sofa into a guest bed it takes up extra space, so it’s important to think carefully about where it will sit in your home.

For a foldout sofa bed, you’ll need the space in front of it to be kept free, or at least some space that can be easily cleared. A clic clac mechanism needs free space behind the sofa, since the backrest is pushed back and flattened. You can also choose a pull-out sofa bed or futon – both require free space in front, just like the foldout.

If space is tight and storing spare bed linen is a challenge, a sofa bed with built-in storage could solve that problem. And if you need some new bed linen that matches your bedroom style – we’ve got you covered for that too.

Comfortable sofa beds

Fitting a sofa as well as a bed into one room can be difficult when space is limited. A sofa bed could be just the solution you need. If it’s going to be your main bed, comfort is key.

To help you get the sleeping conditions you like, some of our sofa beds can be combined with a futon mattress. Choose the firmness, softness and support of your mattress just like you’d do with any regular bed.
