How can I carry out my kitchen measurements independently?

We are happy to give you a few helpful tips that you can use to carry out your measurements. IKEA assumes no liability for measurements taken independently.

  • Before measuring your kitchen yourself, ask your landlord if they already have measurements of your kitchen. This will save you time and effort.
  • Not all corners in a room are perfectly square. Keep this in mind when creating your floor plan.
  • The type of your new cooking appliance (electric or gas) depends on the connections available in your kitchen. Therefore, check which connections you have before planning.
  • If you want to cook with gas but do not have a gas connection, you can use TÜV-certified gas cylinders. Please note that in Germany these must be approved by your landlord.
  • Check in advance which connections for an extractor hood are available. If your kitchen does not have an exhaust air connection, don’t worry – most of our extractor hoods can also be used in recirculation mode.
  • An ideal work surface is at least 1.20 m long. There should be 60 cm of free space after the sink and 60 cm next to the cooktop. This gives you enough room to work and space for all your utensils. Also plan storage space for appliances such as a coffee machine, toaster, and similar items.
  • In addition to our worktops available for immediate purchase up to 2.46 m in length, we also offer custom-made worktops. Please allow for a waiting time of 4–8 weeks.
