One for all and all for one: a multi-function stool

FROSTA stools are so practical that they can be used for a lot of things. As a seat of course, but also as a small side table, as a pedestal for a plant or even as a wall around a cowboy fort! The only problem is that someday, these valiant little stools will actually look like they emerged from a battlefield. But fortunately, that’s easy to fix. With a little coat of paint, original decoration and a surprising concept, they start a second life as a bench (or even as a cowboy fort and more).

Step 1

Clean and degrease the wood and fill any scratches with suitable putty.

Step 2

Sand the stools well.

Step 3

Apply a coat of primer to the seat and let it dry.

Step 4

Then apply two finishing coats. Sand and dedust between the two coats. Allow them to dry thoroughly.

Step 5

Drill small cross-stitch holes into the seat, using a pre-drawn template (see box).

Step 6

Pass a fine nylon thread through the holes to form the cross-stitch. Tie the thread at the bottom surface of the seat. Repeat steps 2 through 6 for the two other stools.

Step 7

Drill a small hole, in one leg only, 20 cm high, on two of the three stools. On the third, drill a hole in both legs. Align the stools and connect the legs using a threaded rod and nuts. File the threaded rod.

Step 8

From bottom to top, wrap the legs with thicker nylon thread to hide the nuts. Staple the thread underneath and fasten it to the top with a glue gun.

Tip

Wrap the end of your nylon thread with a small piece of sticky paper. You’ll pass through the holes more easily.
