IKEA guarantees

Most IKEA products have a 2-year guarantee. We provide an extended guarantee of 5, 10, 15 and 25 years for some of our products. The guarantee period is stated for individual products. Live flowers, electric batteries, light bulbs, IKEA FAMILY textiles and food are covered by statutory guarantee. Products from the discounted goods department are covered by a guarantee period of 1 year. However, this does not apply to defects that were the reason for which a product was discounted. Guarantees apply to household use only.

General Terms and Conditions for all Guarantees

What the guarantee covers

Guarantees do not cover products that have been improperly stored or assembled, improperly or incorrectly used, or altered or cleaned using incorrect procedures or improper cleaning agents. Guarantees do not cover normal wear and tear or nicks or scratches caused by impact or accidents. Guarantees do not apply if a product has been placed outdoors or in a humid environment. Guarantees apply to household use only, unless otherwise stated for the product. More detailed information can be found in the guarantee conditions stated for individual products.

What will be done to remedy the problem

IKEA will inspect the product and decide, at its own discretion, whether the relevant guarantee applies to the case. IKEA will then, at its own discretion, either repair the product or replace it with the same or a comparable product. In these cases, IKEA will reimburse the cost incurred for the procedure. This does not apply to repairs that have not been approved by IKEA. Replaced components become the property of IKEA. If the relevant goods are no longer sold at IKEA, IKEA will provide an appropriate refund. In such a case, IKEA will, in its own discretion, determine what constitutes such an appropriate replacement.

General rights

This guarantee gives you certain, specific legal rights. This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights in any way.

Guarantee period

The guarantee is valid from the date of purchase and endures for the period specified for the product. The original receipt is recommended as proof of purchase

Maintenance instructions

In order to claim your guarantee, you must follow the specific maintenance instructions that apply to your product. You will find these instructions in IKEA stores and on the websites for individual products.

How to contact us if necessary

Keep the receipt as proof of purchase and have it ready before contacting us. Proof of purchase is recommended for the validity of guarantees. For further information, please see our guarantee brochures, which you can pick up at IKEA stores.

    Which products does this guarantee cover?

    This guarantee covers household use only. This guarantee applies to the following components of the METOD kitchen system:

    • cabinet frames,
    • door and drawer fronts,
    • wall-mounted rails,
    • UTRUSTA hinges,
    • fully extendable MAXIMERA drawers,
    • UTRUSTA shelves made of tempered glass and melamine,
    • plinths,
    • feet,
    • door dampers,
    • door opening mechanisms,
    • cover panels,
    • decorative rails and cornices, worktops except LILLTRÄSK,
    • sinks except FYNDIG.

    What does this guarantee not cover?

    We provide a 2-year guarantee on the following products:

    • handles,
    • LILLTRÄSK worktop,
    • sinks,
    • FYNDIG,
    • sliding hinge for semi-built-in dishwasher,
    • ERSÄTTARE,
    • BEHJÄLPLIG sliding hinge for fully built-in dishwasher.

    We provide a 5-year guarantee for:

    • UTRUSTA electric opening mechanism.

    We provide a 10-year guarantee on the following products:

    • TUTEMO and HÖRDA open cabinets,
    • sockets,
    • FORVARA,
    • UTRUSTA wire baskets.

    KNOXHULT kitchen system

    This guarantee does not cover the KNOXHULT kitchen system.

    » Appliances

    Guarantee period 5 years

    What does this guarantee cover?

    This guarantee covers defects in appliances that have been demonstrably caused by defective construction or material. The guarantee is valid from the delivery of the goods to the purchaser. This guarantee applies to household use only. During the guarantee period, compensation will be paid for the repair of defects, such as repairs, parts, labour and travel expenses, provided that the appliances are accessible for repair at no extra cost. These conditions are subject to EU regulations (No. 99/44/EC). Replaced components become the property of IKEA. How long is the guarantee period? This guarantee is for a period of five (5) years. The vendor provides a 2-year guarantee for TILLREDA and LAGAN appliances. If a repair is carried out within the guarantee period, no new guarantee is provided for the appliance or for new components. Which appliances does this guarantee not cover? TILLREDA and LAGAN appliances, which are guaranteed for 2 years.

    Who provides the service?

    Guarantee service and service are provided by IKEA through its own service or a network of authorised partners.

    What does this guarantee not cover?

    • Normal wear and tear,
    • intentional damage or negligent damage, damage caused by non-compliance with instructions, incorrect installation or connection to incorrect voltage, damage caused by chemical or electrochemical reaction, rust, corrosion or excessive calcium water, damage caused by abnormal environmental conditions,
    • consumables, including batteries and light bulbs,
    • parts that have no function or are for decorative purposes, have no impact on the normal use of the appliance, including scratches and discolouration,
    • accidental damage caused by foreign objects or substances and the cleaning or loosening of clogged filters, drainage systems or detergent drawers,
    • damage to the following components: ceramic glass, accessories, cutlery and crockery baskets, supply and discharge pipes, gaskets, light bulbs and bulb covers, holders, casings and parts thereof; except for damage caused by a manufacturing error,
    • defects caused by repairs not performed by the designated service providers and/or authorised service partners, or repairs using non-original parts,
    • defects caused by incorrect installation or installation that does not meet the specifications,
    • use of the appliance in a non-household environment, e.g. professional use,
    • the cost of basic installation of the appliance. This restriction does not apply to defect-free work performed by a qualified professional and using original parts in order to adapt the device to the technical safety requirements of another EU country.

    » Kitchen mixers

    Guarantee period 10 years

    What does this guarantee cover?

    The 10-year guarantee applies to all kitchen mixers in the IKEA range. This guarantee covers defects in material and workmanship. The guarantee applies to household use only.

    What does this guarantee not cover?

    This guarantee does not apply to:

    • products that have been stored, assembled and installed incorrectly,
    • used improperly, cleaned incorrectly or with cleaning agents,
    • damaged by impact or limescale.

    This guarantee does not cover the aerator, which is part of the mixer taps and must be cleaned regularly, or any damage caused by limescale.

    What does this guarantee cover?

    IKEA provides a 10-year guarantee against defects in material and workmanship, which applies to the frames and pillows (seats and backrests) of our sofas and can be returned under the IKEA Returns policy. The sofa guarantee is valid for ten (10) years from the date of purchase. The original receipt is recommended as proof of purchase. This guarantee applies to household use only. This guarantee covers defects in material and workmanship in frames and cushions (seats and backrests of the following products):

    Guarantee period 10 years

    What does this guarantee cover?

    This guarantee only covers the use of wardrobes for the storage of clothes and shoes in a household. It covers defects in material and workmanship of the following components of PAX/KOMPLEMENT wardrobes:

    • frames,
    • hinged doors and hinges,
    • frame dividers,
    • interior shelves and divided shelves
    • sliding doors and sliding door mechanism
    • KOMPLEMENT interior fittings.

    What does this guarantee not cover?

    The guarantee does not cover:

    • the insert in the KOMPLEMENT pull-out tray,
    • jewellery insert for KOMPLEMENT drawer,
    • divider for KOMPLEMENT telescopic tray,
    • KOMPLEMENT tray (set of 3 pcs).

    » Mattresses

    What does this guarantee cover?

    Guarantee period 10 years

    This guarantee covers household use only. This guarantee covers complete mattress including covers, zips and everything else.

    What does this guarantee not cover?

    The guarantee does not cover:

    • Mattress pads
    • Children mattresses
    • Mattresses SÄBOVIK
    • Mattresses used in a bed sofa where the mattress is included in the product 

    Furthermore, the guarantee does not cover the normal wear and tear of goods or wear and tear caused by normal use. Normal wear means a change in the colour of materials used (fading), wear of coating, partial softening of used (filler) materials, and permanent deformation (declination) that does not exceed 10% of the total mattress height. Permanent deformation (declination) after more than seven years of use constitutes normal wear and tear at all times. Even the best mattresses accumulate dust and mites with increasing age.

Bathrooms

    Guarantee period 10 years

    What does this guarantee cover?

    This guarantee covers household use and defects in material and workmanship in the following components of the furniture series: GODMORGON furniture, GODMORGON legs, three-part storage set, boxes with compartments and a set of five boxes with lids - all from the GODMORGON series.

    What does this guarantee not cover?

    The guarantee does not cover TOLKEN boards.

    » Bathroom sinks and mixers

    Guarantee period 10 years

    What does this guarantee cover?

    This guarantee covers household use and defects in the material and workmanship of all bathroom sinks, including drain valves and mixer taps.

    What does this guarantee not cover?

    This guarantee does not cover products that have been stored, assembled and installed improperly, used improperly, cleaned using incorrect methods or cleaning agents, or damaged by impact or limescale. This guarantee does not apply to the aerator, which is an integral part of mixer taps and must be cleaned regularly, and to any damage caused by limescale.
