Colour therapy to rejuvenate your old armchairs

Wine or spaghetti bolognese stains that won’t come off, even after washing? One day your covers will face this problem, especially if they’re clear. But there’s excellent therapy for that. All it takes is a little colour and decoration to bring your old fabric back to life, and for your armchairs to be back in shape for many years to come.

Step 1

Take the cover off the chair. Dye it in the washing machine according to the instructions on the fabric dye package.
Remove the flaps at the bottom of the cover using a seam ripper.

Step 2

Sew a zipper (of a contrasting colour) to reclose the slit made in stage 1.

Step 3

Put the stencil (one you’ve bought or made) onto the fabric and fasten it with adhesive tape. Then colour the motifs with fabric paint using a small roller. Don’t use too much paint!

Step 4

Fix the motifs with a smoothing iron (according to the instructions on the fabric paint package).

Tip

If you have more than one chair, create a beautiful combination of assorted colours.
