IKEA Sweden continues to invest in Stockholm and is now expanding by opening a small store in Sweden's largest shopping centre in the beginning of 2025, Westfield Mall of Scandinavia. Through continued investments, IKEA wants to get closer to more Stockholmers through new store formats.

IKEA has a long history in Stockholm. Much has changed since IKEA Sweden opened its store in Kungens Kurva in 1965, but one thing remains the same: the importance of home. And now, as then, we listen to the needs and the dreams of the Stockholmers, all as part of our vision to create a better everyday life for many people.

Exploring new formats

In recent years, we have opened and explored several new formats, such as IKEA City in the Galleria and other smaller formats for planning and ordering kitchen and storage solutions. IKEA Sweden's ambition is to get closer to existing and new customers, and opening a store in Westfield Mall of Scandinavia is the next big step in our Stockholm journey.

“We know that customers want to meet us in more and new ways. We are taking the next step in our journey in Stockholm, exploring new formats to meet new and existing customers. The first big step was when we opened IKEA City Gallerian in the summer of 2022, since then we have invested in developing existing stores in Stockholm, and now we are taking the next big step in the Mall of Scandinavia”, says Emily Birkin, Country Manager for IKEA Sweden.

The store in Westfield Mall of Scandinavia will be the first of its kind in Sweden and will have an area of approximately 2,500 square metres. The store will offer much of what is found in a traditional IKEA store but on a smaller scale adapted to a shopping centre. There will be many home furnishing products to buy and take home; the whole range can be ordered at the store or delivered by home. In addition, there will be inspiration, homeware experts to help with planning and an opportunity to buy food to get the unique feeling of a visit to IKEA.

Great potential in Stockholm

Stockholm is and will continue to be an important place for IKEA Sweden. In the coming years, IKEA will continue to develop formats and meeting places here.  “We see great potential in Stockholm and, with this investment, an opportunity to get closer to more of the Stockholmers, says Emily Birkin. "By building a long-term relationship close to the everyday lives of Stockholmers, we can become an even bigger part of society and people's lives at home”.

The store in Westfield Mall of Scandinavia is expected to open in early 2025.
